100%. Im stupid and do too many breaks. Just pretty much working to pay my debt. Should have stopped when i was ahead.
@LuisMartinez-sz8eh4 ай бұрын
@diggitydank1083 I'm on the same boat. I only buy when I sell off some cards but that's not why I got into the hobby. I find myself craving to buy wax and I just can't because I'm already in the hole. Your not alone. Your not dumb it happens
@SpinSatx4 ай бұрын
Yup, spent 17k in my first couple months on breaks 😂😂 never again... only every blue moon do I hop back in and buy a single spot or filler.
@Thebushbrand4 ай бұрын
Wow! I needed this video. I put myself into so much debt buying cards and chasing a hit. I didn’t study enough before I just hopped in. I spent thousands of dollars of cards then didn’t have the money to get the hits graded. Be careful and do your research. I’m still trying to get myself out of debt because I didn’t research before I just started buying.

I just joined the hobby and I don't really have a lot of money. I created a spreadsheet for my PC and stick to that (Any Prizm Packer player from any year). First, it puts rules on myself so I don't just buy everything I see. Second, it makes the hunt rewarding when I find new players. Third, there are a ton of Packer Prizm cards over the years so it's a decent size checklist to look for (especially with all the parallels). I spend hours just digging through 0.25-$1 boxes at shops or shows and have spent roughly 50 bucks on my PC that has roughly 200 cards and a lot of players are 6+ cards deep in the rainbow. I also don't buy online because I think the hunt to find all the cards in person is the best part and I also enjoy the cataloging what I've found afterwards on a spreadsheet.

Great vid with great advice. Love your a collector and investor and not a breaker. I only buy singles and boxes for PC of our favorite team and players. I love opening packs with my two sons who are now into baseball and cards. I have never sold a card, but I bought plenty this year just of the players we like and see at games.

Here's another aspect of the hobby that isn't discussed often: mental health. It's easy to get upset/jealous/depressed/put out/etc. when you see a constant stream of posts of cards that represent more than your yearly salary. Now, to be clear, I don't blame the people who own those cards. If you're able to level-up and prosper via flipping/buying and selling, more power to you! But comparison is the theif of joy. And I'll be among the first to admit that I've done that to myself, plenty, especially since re-entering the hobby in 2021. Find your path, enjoy yourself, collect within your means, have fun.

@@mojo_sports Thanks. And I say this as a 40-year-old, busy dad, that works overnights, has had a long battle with mental health myself, and has had to work a lot on my sense of self-worth. Seeing people in the hobby having, what appears to be, constant fun and excitement and being involved in transactions that total four, five, or six-figures of cash can be...intimidating. But, I soon realized it doesn't have to be. I found my hobby path and I'm good with it. I hope everyone finds theirs, too.

I’m getting back into the hobby and really enjoy the community and goin to shows/shops….but to be honest, seeing people get hyped and drop big money on WNBA players seems like a pretty good sign that this market is still held up by a lot of speculation.

Awwww man that still sucks about that card. Since I am on disability I have no problem at all working a budget. I dont have much to buy cards but I do get what I get because I love opening packs. I have seen so many people online who lost tons of money buying prospect cards or graded cards. I know a ton of people who put so much money in Wander Franco cards and lost thousands. I like to collect players who have had long careers. My PC is Miguel Cabrera and I collect any all Tigers. Only cards that fit into my budget. One thing I do regret about moving out of Detroit. I moved to Duncan Oklahoma. Yes not a shop or a show to be seen. I would have to drive 1 1/2 hrs to the closest card shop. All my Miggy's are in top loaders. I have a few thousand of his cards. I got most of them from people who sub to my channel !! I use cards to fight my severe depression. My KZbin channel is very boring brand lol I was new so I just put it down as Lisa Zdankiewicz lol Sorry I wrote a book for a comment but I love these vids where you share your knowledge with us so we dont make any mistakes. Thanks for sharing !!

My top 5 rules - #1 never wear flip flops to a card show, #2 buy hall of famers Kobe, Griffey, Jordan, and Mantle are my go too (if I don't sell it then I keep it), #3 have fun and make friends in the hobby, #4 help new people that get in the hobby and show them your process, #5 hit as many card shows in the area as I can especially for trade night.

I have a prediction RAW cards will be king in 20-30 years. Why you ask because everything is getting graded, too many grading companies, and so many of the great cards will be graded. A beautiful raw card will be so rare it will be more valuable. It’s crazy but my plan. What you think Mojo lol
