I could forgive the Mario movie to a point, but some movies like Resident Evil (all of them) need to really study their lore better and worry about the difference between an Adaptation and an Interpretation.

Either that or just make an original story. Like it doesn't have to be a complete retelling of the entire game nor does it need to be a a reboot/remake in movie format. Instead they should take the route of a spin off story where the game characters are involved in another plot. Like what James gun plans to do with the dc franchise with joint game and movie universes.

On that ending statement, I can confirm, I really liked the original Mario Movie when I watched it as a kid. I'm barely even legally able to drive a car because of age requirements, and even still, I fondly remember watching the Mario animated series or whatever tf it was called as well as that movie and enjoying the hell out of it. I haven't watched either since then, but I can imagine that they'd bring waves of nostalgia along with them.

Cool video ! I was thinking of how to revitalize and popularize "dead" franchises and I think a Star Fox anime could work. 12 episodes, 1-2 is getting the team together, 3-4 is first mission, 5-6 is versus Team Wolf, 7-9 is more missions, 10-12 big finale against Andros. Similar idea for Metroid, either a 90s anime style or a Mandalorian style mini serie. The atmosphere can be semi horror, since Samus is alone it can almost be silent. And you have iconic villains to fight every 3 or 4 episodes. Zelda can definitely have a show heavily inspired by Ocarina of Time.

I think if we are gonna bring up TLOU, Castlevania is also a notable adaptation of a game that did the source material quite well. Even as someone who hadn't engaged much with Castlevania before the show, it was an engaging ride that knew what it wanted and didn't overstay its welcome, bowing out with grace at 4 (really 3 seasons since the first one is usually just bundled with the second) seasons when they finished the story they wanted to tell. Sure they could've pumped out more seasons with the characters but they decided to instead end this story and are working on the next, and I am excited to see how they pull it off. Really I think the moral is that shows translate games rather well because they allow for the proper time allocation to a story. You can make a several hour story with a show.

so the plot of sonic is basically on christmas island, yes that christmas island, no the radiation is not relevant to sonics speed at all, sonic was born. he was raised in the wild by birds and was nonverbal for most of his childhood. one day he noticed eggman using the wildlife of christmas island for his own experiments, and went on a little adventure to stop him (the original Sonic the Hedgehog). sometime after that he encounters tails being bullied and saves him, becoming somewhat of an older brother figure to tails, and they both stop eggman again. then there’s sonic cd sandwiched in there somewhere probably. shortly after sonic 2, sonic and tails find themselves on Angel Island where Eggman is building THE DEATH EGG. knuckles then appears and steals the chaos emeralds from sonic. eggman manipulated knuckles into fighting sonic and tails but then knuckles realized they weren’t trying to steal the master emerald, which knuckles is the guardian of, and joined them to stop eggman. micheal jackson was involved. sonic and knuckles then used the power of the chaos emeralds and the master emerald to defeat eggman again. then it turns out the ghost of a 14 year old girl named Tikal lives inside the master emerald and there’s also a chaos god named chaos and he’s and alien and also a mutated chao who are just mutated aliens anyway. chaos turns into a dragon, destroys chicago, sonic destroys his intestines at warp speed. then the american military are after sonic and surprise! they mistook him for shadow (they still want to kill him though cause they’re the american military). shadow does some gay shit, tails stalks the president bada bing bada boom now they’re in space there’s a tape of an old man getting shot to death and shadow cries over his dead sister and then gets a concussion after killing a lizard. then metal sonic has gender dysphoria and shadow gets better from his concussion by killing his biological father, the devil from the bible. then sonic goes to italy and starts time traveling with a twink hedgehog named silver who wants to kill him and also kisses a princess and dies and gets resurrected. then he goes and falls asleep in a library and kills the genie from aladdin with a pair of jordans, turns into a werewolf and fights a monster in the center of the earth, becomes king arthur and then the games get a little boring for a while. he goes to space again. that’s cool i guess. then shadow drop kicks a guy and he gets so mad that he uses a magical ruby to literally reuse assets. then eggman fucked canonically

Tomb raider and tomb raider 2 are kinda good and cheesy fun, mario 1993 is a cult classic and I think the version with deleted scenes the fans made (it's still wip but with a version on internet archive) improves the film, and the first doom movie is better then the 2nd one somehow and is a fun popcorn flick. Halo tv show deserves to become lost media.

I’m late but the argument about how games are much longer than the media it’s turned into, makes me stress for season 2 of TLOU. It takes like a full 24 hours to beat that game, I’m worried the show will not do it justice.

I think they’ll do it justice, season 1 was done perfectly and even elevated parts of last of us part 1. They utilized the time great turning 15 hours into 9 episodes with the only downside being a shorter finale than expected. Still became my favorite media regardless! Part 2 is more of a struggle because of the length (around 40 hours) so I agree it’ll be difficult but it’s been filmed already and the set pieces were recreated amazingly. So I’m certain they took time to make sure things would work. However, I’m not sure how much and what point they’ll split it at. I’m really excited to see the decisions they made.

I heard somewhere that the finale of Last of Us 2 would be in season 4, but it’s definitely possible for them to still get it all done in just 2 seasons. Depends how much they are adding to the story to enhance it. The way they translate from game to tv is the best I’ve ever seen, only adding stuff when it’s beneficial to the story, not to change something for the heck of it. Many examples of that are in season 1, so I’m sure they might try expanding the story more during the other seasons.

my idea of a doom movie is hardcore henry (the first person action movie)… but doom (1993). like, the HUD bar from the dos game with the doomguy actor’s face in the middle part. plot is simple: 2 minutes of setup: doomguy beating up his c.o. for telling him to shoot protesters, doomguy getting his ass shipped to mars, uac teleporter accident, hell invades, doomguy gets told to guard the hangar, squad gets slaughtered and possessed, enter first person view, dramatic gun load, at dooms gate starts up, cue title. have a part where he quotes the old comic book while high on beserker pack and literally ripping and tearing his way through a pack of imps and pinkys, have the cyberdemon fight,. have the spider boss get blown up with the bfg, end with doomguy returning to earth, sees the wreckage of his house, finds daisy’s (his pet rabbit that dies at the end of the game) head on a pike and swearing revenge. cue end card: DOOMGUY WILL RETURN IN DOOM II: HELL ON EARTH

the problem with videogame movies is that the film industry usually replaces a lot of things such as the narrative, plotpoints, dialogue and characters because they think they know better and dont see the financial potential in being accurate to the source material, they think their ideas work better and jam them into an existing established world, the most extreme recent example is the halo tv show where if it wasnt for the show named halo and the character named master chief you could mistake it for any other generic space adventure
