That shoe rack "tripod" might have just saved my semester, thank you so much for this video!!! For those wondering (bc i was that person), if you have a DSLR camera, just get a shoe rack with bigger gaps between the bars and use that. I had to tape mine to a wall with gorilla tape so rip my paint but so far it seems to be working! Remember it's not insane if it works ;p

This is great. I've been doing stop motion on and off for years just with a camera and video software to put them in order. The onion skin features seems like a real help. Wish I had found this 3 years ago.

This is nice! I use thread too. I've tried the curled wire method which is good but too fiddly. I make a joint that you don't see. I push the needle through two small squares of Bristol board - strong, smooth paper - one square on top of the other. Then I use a small piece of double sided tape, one on each on the outer faces to stick the thread. So then you have two sticky outer faces, two faces of smooth paper that rotate against each other and the small bit of thread holding the joint together. The thread can be long enough so that you can allow for a little bit of stretch and squeeze for more dynamic movement.

This is such an awesome video...this is what I expect from a tutorial...as u explain and answer something,the mind moves on and seeks answer ok but how do you do that in order to to this...and the next thing I know is u r explaining just that...what is it? What I need? What they do? How they do? How do I proceed? Also u saw for a newbie this might raise questions u figured that out and answered that too... that's what a new learner wants...u r an awesome tutor... I'm so happy now that this video makes me feel like I can create something.. whenever I look for a video to learn something the tutor will expect the viewer to figure it out so many little but very important why's without which a new learner can't seem to proceed,the tutors probably do this because they have worked so much on their fields that they forget to include those small details or they regard those details as so small and forget their importance and expect us to figure out the what and why's on our own...as I don't get all the details in the video and search for the answers elsewhere and don't get them easily in one place or a few places either,while doing this and not finding the answers needed I slowly loses interest and eventually abandons the idea of doing it...

Wow, never though about that set up with the sloping panel, I'm trying to make a paper stop motion, can't believe how hard it is to make it look good
@kendynay2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The sloped panel is ok to use, especially if you don't have a tripod that allows you to shoot straight down. The downside for that set up is the objects sliding down the background. A little blue tape can fix that. Shooting top down from a boom is the best set up.

Hi Kendra! What brand of markers do you recommend? thanks for the video
@kendynay3 жыл бұрын
It depends on your budget. If you are making something that you want to last, then alcohol based markers like Copic or Faber Castel Artist Pens are great. If it is a drawing that is only meant to be for animation and not permanent, then stick to cheaper markers like Sharpies, Crayola, etc. I love Micron Pens for line work. Hope that helps.

It is pretty easy to get started, you just need a way to record images and then play them back in a timeline. If you have a tablet or phone you can get a stop motion app for free or for a small fee. I recommend Stop Motion Studio to begin.

But there’s one thing nobody talks about on these tutorials: how do I know how many frames I’m going to need according to the dialogue? Do I have to have the dialogue recorded first and then based on the length I can know how many frames I’ll need or is there an easier way?
@kendynay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan. I have two videos that show my methods of doing lip syncing with Stop Motion Studio pro and Dragon Frame. I recorded the dialogue first and then matched the mouth motions. I have also done animations where I estimated the number of frames by counting the number of seconds for a section of dialogue and then animating the frames per second (this method is less precise but can work for a quick animation) Here is the link to my tutorial on lip syncing with Stop Motion Studio kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmSoeaR6nL9_hck
