I loved what you said at the start of the video. This Monday I'm beginning a history of films class, and from what you said, I think it will be very helpful.

Hey Doug, Thanks for the great video, really inspiring! My background is movie & TV production: mostly 35mm , some 16mm and very little video, so I come from old school, both motion picture & stop-motion projects. I appreciate that you included some talk about super 8 and the 16mm Bolex. I think far too many people these days are jumping right into digital videomaking and they do not understand the craft or art of filmmaking. I'm still not sold on video, it just isn't as good as film.

@MrRagingAaron I had exactly your problem. If that is the case, then you can probably use the flash to light the scene before you take a picture. You press left on the arrow pad until the last option, and then you click. That was for my Olympus camera, though.
@Painkiller_Productions11 жыл бұрын
you can manually move it, some cameras you can tranfer the pictures with usb or take the memory card out itself onto a cheap adapter

Wow. I never thought about cameras that way. I love making stop motion too. You are right that it is a fading hobby. It's very sad but everyone gave up o it and went to gaming and x box stuff. It's kind of sad. This generation of stop motion is almost gone. Sadly. Only people with enough patience and mind still do it. Man, what a shame. I do like this video because you pointed out some stuff I never even thought about a certain way

Sucks how my HD camera (like the one you were holding in the end) cant be plugged into any stop motion program because it doesn't have "livecam" or something... :/ I just have to take the pictures, then import them and speed up the footage a little to get what i want.

You cannot plug a firewire into a DSLR. you use a USB however you will need software like DragonFrame or StopMotionPro

As far as a camera goes you do not need anything special. I use a Legitech pro 9000 which are fairly cheap. IT also has manual focus via the software and takes a photo at a press of the mouse button so I rarely need to touch my camera at all. Webcams are getting better and better and have the features I would want for stop motion. Just make sure things like follow face and auto focus are turned off.

You do not need stop motion software to do stop motion. Take the photos with your camera ( I use a logitech pro 9000 I got for $15) and any video editing software. I started with Movie maker that came with windows and I know the mac comes with one. Windows also has paint which I have used to edit but gimp i a free open source program that is basically photoshop. So both programs are free. So build a set, take pics of your figures and edit them in gimp and compile them in WMM.

Is there any software that is free or VERY cheap, because I would love to get back into the stop-motion scene, but don't have $300 for Dragonframe. I CAN use iPhoto, but I want something that will let me take the pictures from my computer to avoid the camera shake from pushing the shutter. Do you know of anything like this? I know it's unlikely, but there's no harm in asking. Thanks.
