Cons of Multitasking 1. Costing valuable Time 2. Higher chance of making Mistakes 3. Drains a lot more Energy 4. Put strains on working Memory How to stop Multitasking (External/Internal) 1. Make less distractions in the environment (External) 2. Are you spreading your retention *No Two Cognitive activities but you can have two physical activities 3. Self-Talk

I love seeing this info because I have for many years tried to convince my bosses and co-workers that multitasking was not the best thing to practice. The corporate world really implemented and drove this new concept to combine employee positions back in th 80's when desktop computers became the new tool for secretaries turning into admin assistants. I burned out from multitasking because I serviced 5 different departments back then. This is a high level brain stressor for work and home. Thank you so much for calling atention to multitasking and introducing monotasking!💯💖

I think this is an important message, thanks for sharing. I would even say that working out and listening to a podcast or video is still detrimental. Sounds controversial however there is no difference between the physical and cognitive. Multitasking between the two robs your brain of the chance to focus on one thing. In this instance a person is still selling out to boredom and the need for more stimulation. You may think you are saving time but over the long term, it may tell a different story as fat as retention of quality time spent doing whatever activity or listening to whatever content. Being satisfied and being happy with one thing at a time is a gift. Something i'm still learning about but the more that you practice just literally just do one thing at a time the easier it will be when it really matters with things like work (hard work and easy work). The more one practices the opposite the easier it is to escape and to avoid things like work all together or the more it makes work uncomfortable.

Love your T-shirt that says "I MISS MY PRE-INTERNET BRAIN". So true, too much internet and social media, makes one miss out on life out there, looking down at the phone while walking, miss seeing the birds fly and be free, the beautiful blue sky, seeing people and surroundings.... missed Moments in Time.

Thank you for sharing! I love your book, LIMITLESS! Im journaling everyday, taking notes. And learning! I love the stories and metaphors you share! I have a coworker, who tonight was talking about his learning disabilities, and how he sometimes struggles. I spoke with him for a few minutes, and reminded him not to put that label on him, because he’s limiting his abilities. And that he’s capable of learning anything, and as fast as he wants. We all have a genius inside. We just have to learn to embrace and unleash the genius within. I’m thankful for opportunities to share your stories and your book, and how much it’s helping me. I love seeing people overcome their obstacles and watch them grow.

I recently started a new job a Supply Chain Manager, and I am contemplating quitting because they are too many tasks to handle at once. Watching this video has opened up my mind and made me realize I have been trying to multitask and not monotasking. Hopefully with this in mind I’ll be able to get more done and stop the thoughts of quitting.

Hi Jim. By watching your useful video I doubt have come to my mind. Being multifaceted or versatile is more or less the same as being multitasking? On the other hand, if they're not... How can I differentiate them? Thanks a lot for your answer.
@joshuatipton1994Ай бұрын
what do you do if your job requires multitasking. Example I have to take calls, make calls, and take chat request all at once. Then while that is going on I have to watch techs when they are getting to their jobs and then check their jobs to make sure they get them done correctly. I feel like this job is getting to the point now that its getting to be too much. We have to fix account info for techs out in the field when they call in and make sure they make their jobs on time. Personally I am getting to the point where I am saying how does the company expect anyone to get anything done while the rate us on the calls for our professionalism and everything.

Hey Jim! Thanks for sharing with us this useful information! Now I recognise that I usually cooking and talking with someone by phone at the same time, it really become a habit! I’m curious about listening podcasts while doing physical exercises is it ok to run in the morning for example and listen some podcasts? Why this is not multitasking? And what about walking to destination point?is it ok to listen podcast while walking? Because I’m feeling like I’m not at present moment at this time. Thanks for answer and have a good day!

But I have a question. Can I learn multiple things at a time? It's not that I will do them all at the same time and task switch, but follow a timetable as qe did as kids in school, or dedicate certain days to each subject. Eg Monday and Tuesday is Art/painting. Wednesday is photography. Economics (for degree programme entrance exam) and a new language is every weekday for 2.5 hours each. Building business and miscellaneous (eg. graphic design, religious studies, writing, etc)can be Thursday and friday...Sunday can be me day > self care, cook, laundry, clean,chill. The problem is that I have tried this for the past 4 years and it doesnt seem to work. It's almost feels like an overload or it's too rigid when by nature I'm very moody and prefer spontaneity(?). I get upset because I feel like I'm not sure what I want still I'm afraid of making the wrong decision. I'm 34 yrs old btw. So it's also really late but I'm a late bloomer 😅

I think a lot of people are guilty for this, somehow the brains craving for stimulation often wins the war on modern day focus. Do you have an episode on the subconscious? I wonder how much extra brain fuel it takes to absorb information to the subconscious or if thoughts without giving your full focus are even useful at all
