I will only start salvaging when my storage is full. No harm. Every single point will count if its a time limited event. Only once my storage is full i will start salvaging whites, then blues.

I will say, if silver mane under lv 50, he is useless, but after lv 55 he will become really strong (but of course you still need healer for him)...
