I stayed in a shared apt with one other person in Santa Lucia for 4 months back in 2015 for $425 a month. Wasn’t bad. Of course I’d do a private apt next time. I was close to the train and wasn’t long trip to estradiol or poblado

I think the reason gringo prices exist is because 1. they need the apartment to be furnished and 2. Gringos have no credit history or verifiable income in the country so the landlord's taking a bigger risk.

I mean I don't have all the construction facts on Medellin, so take my comment with a grain of salt but from my personal experience I've seen ovens in about 70% of the place I've lived in - granted I only rent in Estrato 5 & 6 (once 4.)

Great info as always! I’ll be referencing this video again soon as I book a place. I think you said before not to commit beyond a short-term stay in advance. But if I find a seemingly really good place with good reviews, I don’t want to risk losing it or having to switch places multiple times in one 6-8 week stay. Thoughts?
@AKJoel Жыл бұрын
I would always try and stay there for atleast a couple of weeks first. Cos there's so many things that can go wrong in Colombia from construction popping up, to bad wifi, to issues with the appliances and an unresponsive landlord etc.

Those apartments you mentioned on Airbnb, let's say we were not booking them on Airbnb, we are speaking strictly in Spanish and booking them for rent with the local landlord or agent, how much do you reckon they would cost? My guess would be $600.

Why are you using Airbnb? Double the price of Colombian website listings
@AKJoel Жыл бұрын
This is geared towards people who are coming for a short stay - not everyone is gonna deal with Colombian real estate agents to stay for a month. Also there's a HUGE amount of scams out there - so AirBnb is the safest for newcomers before they get comfortable with the city.

It's lost it's desirability for many even at $500 ! -- Other more remote areas in Colombia or even smaller cities are really cheap - when you consider (?) one can live for their entire budget - closer to $500 than $1000 - your intending just for rent !?! - - - All your doing is comparing to the extremely high priced really expensive areas of the US most people can't afford anyway. -?-
