Good perspective about the short amount of time some research tasks will actually take versus the large amount of time we think it's going to take.

Probably a good idea to call the county court house ahead of time. My sister and I have taken a couple of trips, only to be told we need to go to Richmond for VA & Raleigh for NC. But we still found some interesting information

sometimes things that you'd expect to need to go to the courthouse for can be done over email, mail, or phone. I know that to get the marriage records for my ancestors in one county, I need to go to the courthouse in the county. But for my ancestors in another county, there's a form online, which I can mail with a bank check or email with my phone number. I emailed and they called me back to tell me the fees and confirm that they knew what I was looking for. While I was talking with them they told me more useful information about retrieving records from the county and at which date, I'd need to request from another county since the county formed from another about 150 years ago. To be able to get those records mailed to me was wonderful. I'm making a list of which ancestors I want to request those records for and which counties they are in, that's my next project and while it's not dated on the calendar I'm working on it in spare time as I prepare for a trip and it will go to the top of the priorities upon my return from the trip.
