Hi there! Curiosity bit me when you said "you saved my bacon". I started thinking that what would be its origin. So, I have googled and it seems that comes from the 17th Century. As most of the sayings, there are versions about its origing for every taste. It could be the body or our life, or a thief's slang that meant "escape", or might be simply cure pork meat. At that time , it was considerated a treasure. So, Harry... I owed you one! 😉
