Master Your Voice Singing Course: ramseyvoice.co...
Many singers strain their voice and go flat when they try to hit high notes.
But learning how to avoid straining your voice is actually very simple.
Today, I'll show you my favorite trick to avoid straining your voice when singing high notes.

What’s interesting about singing high notes: Low larynx and jaw helps and gives more agility to reach high notes, sing coloratura phrases and do crazy, impressive technical stuffs. Squeezing the larynx up only creates problems for everyone. I experienced this when I was singing in a Rossini opera. Saying the word and being able to pronounce them on the inside of the vocal tract, is the key ❤

The constant background music playing while you're talking sounds cheesy and is distracting imo, which is a shame because what you're actually saying is articulate, concise, and very helpful, especially when you are able to demonstrate exactly what you are describing. The content is A+. Thank-you!

Very useful tips. I think I'm definitely changing my vowels while practicing songs, not so much in the vocal exercises like 'mum'. 😅 Aren't certain vowels easier to reach high notes with? 🤔

I’m glad it was helpful. And yes, typically close/narrow vowels are easier

There's an issue here that you don't address, & that was big for me when a teacher I had was trying to get me to do this. It was this. As you go higher you need to thin. That's especially important if you are capable of making notes in full chest voice quite high, say G or A-flat, but doing so involves a lot of weight. For me (& I expect others), a change in my mouth shape (wider and with the jaw not going down so much) was how I knew how to thin the note from about D-natural up. I wasn't spreading to shout. I was spreading to thin. So when my teacher made me do hands on cheeks etc, that meant I made my notes from D upwards with more weight. Sure, I could do that. I could make individual Gs & A-flats with a mouth shape like a middle C. But they were very heavy and loud. The moral I want to point to here is that far and away the most important thing is to *thin* as you go higher. If spreading is how your student knows how to thin, you surely want to let them spread, initially. Otherwise you are just going to forbid them from thinning, meaning their only option for high notes is to flip straight from solid chest to head voice, with no mix in between? Once they get better at thinning in other ways, *then* they won't need to modify the vowel so much to achieve it. Would you agree?

Not spreading the vowel helps you thin

@@ramseyvoicestudio I don't dispute that it eventually helps you achieve the *correct* technique for thinning. But you surely must have encountered students who went wide in order to thin. It used to be one of the popular ways to thin. Watch Carl Anderson or Ted Neeley singing in Jesus Christ Superstar. They both go wide. Now you may well not want your students to make the kinds of thin high-pitched sounds they made. You may want sweeter, richer high notes. But I'm sure you also don't want students to just use force to achieve Es to Gs. And for me (& I can't be alone), making me narrow simply forbid me from thinning in the only way I knew how, leaving me with only force or flip if I were going to sing a G.

Can someone please give me advice on how I can increase my vocal range from an A4 to a C#5? Am 15 years old and I've been wonderin' a lot about this for quite a while! Am a boy by the way! Is it possible to increase my vocal range as a 15 year old from an A4 to a C#5? If so, how can I do it and what exercises do I need?
