I'm trying to train more like a bodybuilder. I spent too many years with these hybrid strength training techniques that have been promoted for the last 20 years or so sacrificing muscle hypertrophy.

Especially when they are from 2003, 2015 etc.. And good luck with HIIT every other day if you're overweight; ei the average US male or woman. Or 45+. Or not already in decent shape, especially when you are adding it to a workout that is a majority compound movements. Bench, clean and jerk, power cleans, deadlifts, squats, bent rows, chinups, weighted dips, bent presses, two-hands anyhow's, burpees etc etc and you have a recipe for a month one 90 day injury. I see very little wrong with regular people training like body builders, as most do build around bench, squats and deadlifts. The biggest difference is is the amount of time they have to do iso exercises. No, doing 60 sets of bicep curls every week is almost definitely not going to help a regular person trying to get into shape, but neither was the advice given here as like I said, it is an injury waiting to happen and sounds like a lot of ChatGPT gobbledeegook. I like HIIT. I like deadlifts, bent rows, and who doesn't like benching? At the same time the vast *MAJORITY* and *EVERY* study I have read over the last 2 years has said that hypertrophy *IN NATURAL ATHLETES* along with strength gains tends to max out at 10-20 sets, so doing more than that on any iso exercise is borderline pointless. Also, the body can only repair so much, so a balanced plan, whether push/pull/legs that is iso focused and takes longer or compound focus (that may take just as long due to rest periods) is still going to put you in or around the same place if everything is done with the same intensity. As fpr cardiovascular, sure, HIIT burns more calories than steady state, but most people can jog longer than they can sprint all out for 200 yards, walk for 100, sprint for 200, jog backwards for 200, sprint for 200, walk for 100 rinse and repeat so they end up burning more calories and a higher percentage of fat jogging. Most people can walk far longer than they can jog, and a two hour walk is going to burn more calories than a 30 minute jog while pulling a higher percentage of that energy from fat stores, so all of this really, really depends on the person. If they only have 30 minutes a day to exercise, then sure, superset everything you can and go all out running, swimming, elliptical or wtv for the last 10 minutes. If you have 90 minutes to exercise 6 days a week your plan is going to look very, very different if you also enjoy being at the gym. For a site that caters to beginners and the mass market it missed the mark. At least they didn't insist on a gram of protein per pound of body weight, though I would not discourage it either, I just doesn't seem to be nearly as set in stone as a ton of influencers say it is. More like .75 or so per pound puts most people in a good place. Lastly, if you do not eat like a body builder, you're never going to look like one. If you do not eat in a deficit, it doesn't matter what kind of routine you have, if you are starting overweight, you are probably never going to build your abs enough to get them to poke through. All the HIIT most _regular_ gym goers can tolerate is not going to fix a 5K calorie a day diet.

This is the science and diet of a body builder vs aesthetic. You can train all you want but diet is a very big component to getting the aethetic body you want. I learned this the hard way.

Since when do bodybuilders not focus on compound movements? That is still the majority of their training. This is highly misleading

Well if you want to look like the guys in this video, meaning average at best, train like this video suggests. If you want to look big and fully developed, train like a Bodybuilder.

you have no idea what average looks like. the average dude is mostly skinny fat and can't do one single pull up. so these guys are definitely above average and pretty fit, but nothing too crazy.

Who says that a bodybuilder can't look 'lean & aesthetic'? Besides, it's not up to you to tell how someone should look.

Since the internet, everybody had and have all kinds of studies on this and that... Everybody's genetics and stature is different. You gotta work with what yo Moma gave you... Look at the 1920s and 30s how those men and women trained, and they got in shape. Now, it's all this fancy do this and do that sh!+ now.

I don't think it's the training that's the issue. The reason why many pro bodybuilders look like shit/fake is because they are either offseason fat or they are pumped with steroids, which makes them look grotesque. If you stay natural, get strong, and diet down to lose your gut you will look aesthetic. You won't be big, but you also won't look gross.

If you have a Spenga in your area, the Spenga workouts achieve all these goals using - dumbbells, kettlebells, TRX, steps, Bosus, body-weight exercises, and Spin. Plus Yoga at the end of the Spenga classes - there are several formats, so you select the format that works for you. I endorse it because I have used it for almost 3 years and I have no financial incentive, and in fact, I don't care if people go or not. Each workout is different and each workout is balanced - you don't have to plan your workouts - just show up and work hard.
