Unfortunately there's nothing so special about Zulu or any language. Every language holds a special place in the hearts of the people that speak it. It starts with languages and then goes to everything and all of a sudden we are fighting over jobs and other things. Having travelled in Europe a lot you don't see this as much in Europe as you see it in Africa. We Africans have perfected the art of hating each other, seems to be the effects of having been oppressed for very long. We are so quick to criticise our own black brothers and sisters. We Africans just hate each other so bad that anyone who wishes ill on us doesn't have to do anything. They just have to watch as we self destruct.

I am well aware of the Ndebele word and from where it is derived. I spoke of reading not becoz I know more than them but because I research a subject under discussion or of public interest before I lay my opinion on it. A plethora of these guys hate "amaNdebele" aseZim for having a language close to theirs and there is no sound base whatsoever to the hatred especially if one has not stayed,worked nor affiliated with you. Moreover, I have stayed even in South Africa to witness this. I do not have any blad blood with them but the reasoning behind the hatred is unreasonably misdirected hence the call for "reading books",simply meaning research from oral traditions (parents, village headman,historians in the country) and go on to even find literature on that. This surely will open eyes coz some of them get surprised to hear certain cultures that we do and you tend to wonder what they thought of us. Some of us have lived the experience and if u have not, good for u,maybe u will witness it one day. It's a learning curve for us all.

@@JohnHaze4666 Oh sorry, I was talking about the so-called "Northern Ndebeles". For sure, the South African Ndebeles have their own origins, which I don't know about. When King Mzilikazi left kwaZulu, he and his followers were pure Zulus. However they started building a nation along the way to Zimbabwe by conquering the tribes they encountered. The Sothos they encountered along the way called them "Matebele". Apparently "tebele" means, "one who plunders" in Sesotho. I don't know how "Matabele" became "Ndebele". Mzilikazi's people called themselves or their nation anyways, "Mthwakazi". That's who the "Northern Ndebele" really are. The whites proceeded to downgrade their nation -- after subduing them of course -- "Matabeleland". Matabeleland still exists to this day. Unfortunately, the boundaries of Matabeleland spread far deep into those of indigenous Zimbabweans who have nothing to do with the Zulus. Story for another day!!! So, no, I am not arguing with you but we are talking about 2 different groups of people.

There are two or three major things at play. 1. success has many fathers, failure is an orphan. NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo aka ‘Greek Freak’ was born & raised in Greece but was considered by Greeks people as Nigerian immigrant until the NBA called him to the draft, they quickly gave him and family passports. Today the Greek people are proud of him and have elevated him to almost Greek pantheons & get angry if someone associated him with Nigeria. 2. Importance of good quality education, in addition to reading widely and developing a curious mind, travel is the best kind of education. 3. Ignorance of history is Africa's death knell. This current iteration of the Ndebele/Zulu divide is a modern day phenomenon & would have been hilarious if it wasn't this tragic. Even doubly more tragic is the fact that its blown out of proportion by people who are ignorant of their own history. A very brief yet interesting kernel of history. The genesis of the Ndebele in Zimbabwe today started in the early 1790s when they, then known as Abe-Nguni, under the leadership of Chief Mzilikazi, an erstwhile ally of King Shaka of the Zulu, fled Zululand under the persecution of King Shaka of the Zulus who turned on them. Shaka's reign of terror, characterized by mass murder & territorial expansion went on to engulf the entire South Eastern region of SA & spilling over into neighboring Lesotho where Shaka's army was defeated. This period of upheaval became known as the 'Mfecane' or 'Di/Lifaqane'. Various meanings in the Bantu languages translate into the crushing/the scattering/forced migration, landless marauders or the great disruption. The result was all the same, some tribes were scattered, others completely destroyed and new groups formed. On the flip side, the Zulu, an insignificant chiefdom amongst many other tribes before Shaka, experienced a popuation explosion through conquest & assimilating the remnants that remained of the nations & tribes it destroyed. That's how the Zulu became a nation & a vast 'kingdom'. The Ndebele were not immune to this dirsuption. They too fell victim to Shaka's unquenchable thirst for power & territory & fled to Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia). There they founded the Ndebele/Matebele kingdom. Mzilikazi's son & successor Lobengula named their capital that was built on the site of his royal kraal 'Bulawayo'. This isnt an insignificant detail. The name was chosen deliberately because it was the name of the royal kraal of Shaka & capital of the early Zulu empire. In other words, the Ndebele are a remnant of the Zulu, how can they speak a different language? They are related to the Zulu by blood, history, traditions & customs & indeed, they worshipped the same God, uNkulunkulu (Supreme Being/Creator & Mvelinqangi (The 1st One/the Source of all things.

Unfortunately there's nothing so special about Zulu or any language. Every language holds a special placein the hearts of the people that speak it. It starts with languages and then goes to everything and all of a sudden we are fighting over jobs and other things. Having travelled in Europe a lot you don't see this as much in Europe as you see it in Africa. We Africans have perfected the art of hate, remnants of oppression. We are so quick to criticise our own black brothers and sisters. We Africans just hate each other so bad that anyone who wishes ill on us doesn't have to do anything. They just have to watch as we self destruct.

You people have turned it into an insult and an offensive name.
@khaltsharivist3659 ай бұрын
@phumzilensele302 Who determines what is an insult? Certainly not the one doing the othering. They say ‘he who feels it, knows it’. The people who used N word and K word didn’t think it’s an insult too, to this day they are itching to say it and think it’s muzzling freedom of speech calling it hate speech. “An insult is an expression, statement, or behavior that is often deliberately disrespectful, offensive, scornful, or derogatory towards an individual or a group.” Is the word used as a term of endearment? Do you call yourself or other South Africans kwerekweres when they are outside the borders? Do you use it for European or Asian or American immigrants or settlers in South A? I went to view the tick-tock’s shared, it turns out the two ladies are not even in SA, have never lived there but are being insulted for using their mother tongue. Make it make sense. The apartheid K word is Arabic for a non-believer or an infidel, the slavery and Jim crow N word is Spanish & Hungarian for colour black. So they are borrowed or loan words in the English language with a sole purpose to use them as insults or racial slurs. Today these racial slurs are considered hate crimes & people can and have been prosecuted for it. Isizulu has no ‘r’ so that will be a loan word. As MLK put it, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice”. Let’s do our part, as a people abansundu let’s do better. #ubuntu.
