I am learning so much over here. I’m in my mid 40’s and I thought I had permanent hair loss and I stopped going to this braider because every time she would braid my hair she added this stuff called braiding gel and it’s so heavy I would go home and wash it out. I think she needed it to have the braids look nice and slick but hearing how all this product isn’t helping just gives me confirmation. They never used this type of stuff back in the day (90’s). So I appreciate you shedding light in this for me.

Where are you getting this information? I am a biochemist. I currently work with a cosmetic firm producing haircare products. You may have some needs such as diet and lower estrogen , depending of the age. However there is nothing a woman in my age group (27 later this year) does that I will not need to do as I become older. It has more to do with hormonal changes such as pregnancy, menopause, etc and even diet. An actual product that you put on your scalp /hair will not make a significant difference though.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 Ай бұрын
@@carrington2949 My personal experience is that when I turned 30, is that my scalp became sensitised to raw oils and raw butters. Not that a product is going to make my hair and scalp worse or better. I'm in the perimenopause category (age 40-45) and the women in the menopause category (45-65) know what they have experienced. Just because you and your age group haven't experienced it, doesn't invalidate other people's experiences. That's like women's health gaslighting. Everyone who started going grey knows that they had to change up their routine because the routine when their hair had more pigment doesn't work any more. Look at the research papers for women over 35's hair and scalp and skin and above which you must have access to as a bio chemist.
@IamCynDoll
@IamCynDoll Ай бұрын
@@carrington2949love keep studying, it’s crazy that your asking this question. As we get older male and female there are a wide range of changes the body experiences. You’re in your late 20’s. The woman you are today and the woman you will be at 40 are very different inside and out. To say that your body is the same at 27 as it is at 60 on a hormonal level is extremely illogical. You clearly still have alot of learning to do. Come back to this comment in about 15 years and we’ll talk then. Thanks for watching.

I thought my conditioning routine was good because I would only use a small amount, leave it for 3-5 minutes max, and avoided the scalp. But my scalp would itch so bad though, like 2 days after wash day! I actually thought I had an oily scalp until I realized the problem- I was applying conditioner too high up on my shaft. Once I started applying it lower, my scalp immediately stopped itching so soon after wash day (it gets itchy on day 4 now). I cringe thinking about it because I was using only a little bit of product for a few minutes, but it was enough to cause scalp irritation, so I can't imagine what's going on in women's scalps who use GLOBS of product and leave it on for 30 minutes.

My conditioner sits like that on my hair. But ohhhh no, I don't put that much. Since i have low porosity, I steam my hair. I do add a light oil too when I'm under the steamer, only 3 small drops. Plus, I see my trichologist at least twice a year who help me under the routine and products I need to do. Plus also express products are mostly aids. Internal care is more important, keep up with my vitamins, water, and etc.

Oil is a sealant and oil and water don’t mix. Your not helping with absorption adding oil to low porosity hair as your trying to open the cuticle. The dryer is opening the cuticle and you added oil to close it. Don’t add things to your products.

@IamCynDoll oh nooo its no oil like coconut , Olive oil or any consistently nothing like that more water-based infused with herbs and lavender ,pepperment oil, cloves and and etc. The conditioner when steaming more of a scalp treatment, is nothing thick at all more. But the are formulated together and I put some of the conditioner on my ends. And I rinse with cold water and change my heat settings from hot to cold when blowing drying. I can't just thick creamy products on my water. Everything I really thin or water-based, like my leave-in conditioner. When I ment my conditioner sits on top of my head it when I was using the extra thick stuff on my hair and back then long time ago I was mixing with oil but I know better know. I oil use hair oil the send when I wrap my hair which is an very light oil but sometimes I use a little st. john wort oil on my edges and scalp when I has hs flare ups.

holy cow i was told to section my hair and use a dime size for each section. i have had my products for at least a year sometimes a year and a half! eek! to much conditioner can lead to breakage and the nastiness sitting on my hair eww! Cyn why people still using water on the hair to break the bond and then putting conditioner on it, i am so confused!

I need some help!! My hair had been breaking a lot since I went natural. It made me big chop 3 times in like 10 years. I loc'd my hair for 2.5 years and I cut my locs and started over again last September. My hair grows but it just breaks a lot. I have done soo much research and nothing helps. I am recently treating my hair as low porosity(low protein products) and I try to keep it simple. So, I have fine low porosity low density hair. I do protein like once a month but it hasn't helped didn't help my hair jist felt more dry. After i tried a green tea rinse my hair started being dry and nothing revives it completely. I wash once a week, and I do a moisturizing treatment. I do leave in and recently added a almond jai for the cream with the leave in then light oil to seal. I do not use a lot of leave in or the almond jai cream but it almond jai has help my hair to maintain moisture for the whole week. Then I put jumbo braids or twist and let it hair dry. I did blow drying for a bit but my hair looked soo dry I went back to hair dry. I have soft hair maybe 4A/B combo but my edges are now so course they are probably 4C. Years a go before i knew about porosity I used a lot of protein and my hair broke more than it does now. Sorry to write so much I wanted to provide as much info as possible.

Also, when I air dry my hair in a style it takes forever to dry. I finished my wash day at 11:00 am today and it's now 9:00am and it still feels a bit damp. Could that cause my hair to be weaker and increase breakage?

@@IamCynDollhow can you use it wrong? This happens to me every single time I use certain hair products. My scalp is on fire, itching sores and hair falls out in clumps. As soon as I go back to my natural products I don't have that issue. Maybe people just don't know they're allergic?
@IamCynDoll
@IamCynDoll 2 ай бұрын
You have a follicle disorder that you haven’t had diagnosed. Plus conditioner is for the hair not the scalp. Burning of the scalp is a follicle infection, you should go see a dermatologist. Your natural products have oils that feed the bacteria causing your infection, that’s why it feels better. There is nothing in the formula of a conditioner to cause those symptoms. Both of you, what is your pattern from wash day to wash day. What products do you use on the hair and scalp including oils, gels, creams and butters? How do you dry your hair and how do you style it from wash day to wash day? How often do you shampoo and condition and what do you use. Please don’t leave anything out.

@@abigailmbai my baby is 15 months old, I wasn’t really washing her hair like that at 8 months because I didn’t want to keep my hands in her hair. So I washed it every two weeks unless she got food in it or something. Now my routine is wash, conditioner, towel dry, very light leave in on her strands and twist her hair with very light grease. I put the grease on her ends not her scalp. I don’t use a a lot, just enough for a slight shine.
