Personally, I'd never run Windows on a server, but accountants think its cheaper even if the same software is available on most other platforms. What they do is look to the check they need to cut on day #1, not what'll happen in Year #2. They fail to learn that once the installation grows (they never shrink) the pricing often swings against the low initial "cheap" Windows buy-in price. New hardware allocations are needed and the infrastructure needs upgrading to handle it. I cannot tell you the number of databases that were "trivial" on day 1 and then by day 50, needed a VM/server twice the start up size. Well, the common PC user is shrinking. I work with software, and do tech support. I'm seeing that more and more young people simply don't even have a computer anymore. It's all about Smart phones now. Most people i interact with under the age of 20, don't own a PC. So i wouldn't invest to much of yourself into personal computers. For the average general home user, they are going away. We have Apps for everything now. You watch KZbin and Netflix? We have smart TVs for that. You want to use a Chatroom or social media? There's probably an app for that. People use computers to make their lives more convenient. The maintenance of a PC, updates, clean ups, backups, etc. Isn't something most people are interested in, and it's to the point now, with Windows 11, that the PC is more of an inconvenience, than it is a convenience. Don't get to attached. I think in another two generations, we won't have PCs anymore. At least not in the way we know them today. I've migrated all seven of my computers' overs to Linux. I'm just sick of all the crap Microsoft and Apple push these days. But how many people even know what Linux is? They hear the term "PC" The Windows experience is what they think of. And these days that experience isn't a very good one. Sadley i think the entire Personal computer industry is hanging on that thread.

Of course, since the pandemic I'm beien working 100% remote and I may soon have to start hybrid, or perhaps even 100% onsite. I'll probably depend more on my phone or tablet at that time.

Not really. I've used windows for years because most software has better compatibility with Windows. Yeah, you can run a lot of software on Linux, I know, but it isn't as smooth as it is with windows. You always have to tinker with the system or wait for a solution from the community. Until developers consider Linux in the same scale as they do with Windows, let's be honest... Linux just won't compare yet, despite being a better operating system.

Well people stay with windows because it's not a head fuck to open up a simple program like paint. Why would any one in their right mind have to type lines of code into cmd to open a program when double clicking an icon is so much easier. There is a reason Apple turned into what they are. 99.99% of the general public don't care for education, they want convenience, and that convenience has a cost, which they are more than happy to pay for. This channel is a weird mix, sometimes quite critical towards what Microsoft is doing and offering advice on how to bypass those issues. Aaand then we get something like this which I would expect to be found on a channel called something like "the Microsoft Defender". Anyway for many years there have been a saying that if you install Windows on a computer you no longer own it, mainly because Windows blocks you from accessing parts of the folder structure (unless jumping through a lot of hoops) so if you can't do whatever you want with your computer, thus not having 100% control over it, then you no longer own it. Stuff like this confirms that saying... It's somewhat ironic that the techniques Microsoft have implemented to "protect" their files from the user have also in several cases been exploited by malware, making it more difficult to detect and remove, remember root-kits? Those can only hide because a Windows user can not obtain root/system access. Also as a side note: Check the latest stats for Desktop OS usage, seems like W11 have lost ground while W10 have increased market share quite a bit lately.

The customer is always right, if someone is not happy with something and they have to resort to a 3rd party tool to restore functionality that was previously present but is now removed in the new version then its Microsoft's fault for not even considering the needs of its customers, every version of windows since Vista has thrown more mouse clicks, menus, and tick boxes in the way of users to get the job done and it also sucks more time, under old OS's I didn't even have to touch the mouse half the time it was quick and efficient. The way for a more secure OS is to reduce its attack surface by not mass installing and running junkware you don't need, want or ever use, it also reduces what needs to be updated too, t The windows layout is bad too, this is where the UNIX and Linux world has got right from year dot, as they can be easily moved around as and when needed unlike windows... the OS should be just the bare OS and on a separate partition from your Apps and your Data on a separate one to that too, that will make life easy and also quicker to get back up and running after something bad happens - if you do regular backups, as your only restoring the partition(s) that are mangled, windows makes life harder because of the madness of %appdata% dumping crap hidden from the eyes of most users, most users risk everything on a single partition that grows huge in size and can be dificult and time consuming to sort out when it all goes wrong...

But then blocking every exe, including things like 7zip or sysinternals, it looks like they are experimenting stuff that will likely not be in the final product or that will be rollback. i don't see windows running without exe files.

Valve was worried about this blocking exe files. Locking down Windows so you can only use the Microsoft store. There is already a version of windows 10/11 that does this, Windows 10/11 S that was later turned into Windows S Mode, it does pretty much the same thing. So what Microsoft is now doing in NOT new at all, what's actually new it that Microsoft will potentially be enforcing a version of Windows S Mode on all windows 11 post 24H2. Which is disturbing.

@@Britec09 I have been using a PC since 1990 and have never ever had a virus or have been infected in any other way and I can assure you I've done all sorts of things with my PCs you can't even think of. By over protecting PCs they are only making it more dangerous, because people will always find a way to circumvent 'problems'. It's in the nature of the beast. This is the wrong track to follow unless you want to end up with a Macintosh. The attraction of Windows is it's openness. If there's no difference anymore it will harm them indefinitely and they can pack their bags.

Like you say the programs look suspicious to antivirus because they’re performing activity to patch/hook core windows components, which is extremely similar behaviourally to things like rootkits, computer security has come on leaps and bounds since I first watched your videos on Antivirus testing/reviews, malware and spyware has become much bigger business and the OS protections have gotten much much better

The main problem lies in that there is no "this was a false flag, let me use it anyway" option. protection software is not full proof. Not only from things slipping by, but also by it catching things it shouldn't. There should always be an option to do something even with an alert going off. I think the only thing we're going to see from tightening security to the point where it's strangling wanted changes/features, is MORE people trying to bypass it. And when good natured people find a way around a security feature, then the malicious people will use the same tactic to infect you. Congrats Microsoft you just increased the research team for malware 10 fold.
