No joke, the first time I ever saw SA gameplay was watching the Game Grumps playthrough of DX. I thought the bugs and animations were so hilarious, and I wanted to get the game really badly because of how bad it looked. However, I had also recently learned more about the Dreamcast and how cool it was, so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and get a Dreamcast and SA on it. I was both disappointed by how much better it preformed on the DC and very pleasantly surprised by just how enjoyable the game really is (after that it became really, really hard to watch the Game Grumps trash on good games just because they couldn't be bothered to pay attention to what's going on) and it's become one of my favorite games. The graphics on the original are really nice (especially for the time), the gameplay is very satisfying, the music is awesome, and it's got so much charm to it, especially when paired with the equally charming Dreamcast.

The lighting is BETTER. The textures are way more clear an easier to see. The Dreamcast version is only 30 fps and does not have the added features of DX, like Chao Garden, Metal Sonic, and Game Gear titles. If you play the DC version, you aren't getting the full game.

And, while the DX version is 60fps, it doesn't even keep a steady frame rate, while the original at least kept the 30fps. Plus, the lighting is just straight up worse. It's just a fact. You can prefer the DX version. But the lighting in DX is critically and fundamentally worse.

SADX is the more accessible version which's why so many people play it or refer to it when talking about SA1. And the GameCube and PC were more popular platforms than the Dreamcast. That aside, I understand why you'd be peeved by those who use SADX footage/screenshots when talking about the Dreamcast game. I mean he had fingers for goodness sake. Dreamcast version just had his four fingers put together

It also introduced many famous bugs and glitches that weren’t in the original. DX is the port that gave Sonic Adventure a bad name online. think you need to learn what the word "infamous" means, DX is adored by most of the people and without DX people wouldn't even glance at SA, which is still 1 of the best 3D sonic games to date. saying "you’re just trying to protect the game’s legacy. I liked how the character looked more than the OG, my attention to detail in the textures on the ground/walls isn't up there, as i'll be speeding along and actually be paying attention to what i'm doing, instead of zooming into every pixelated background. Sure there were glitches, but are we pretending the DC version didn't have glitches? it ran perfectly fine for me, hell, some glitches only work if you go into free cam, which most won't even touch on their 1st playthrough. But saying i'm delusional because I liked the DX version more than the OG DC version is just outright idiotic, the biggest type of "elitism" i've seen so far. "your opinion is wrong because I liked the DC version more" I liked both version, with the DX version more, it didn't have "extreme janks" I don't think you even know what "extreme jank" means, the game ran perfectly fine, sure had some performance issues on GC unfortunately, but as a kid, i'm not going to be bothered with it, but the DC version also had performance issues at times, so again, what is this "extreme jank" you're speaking off.

There was this one kid that would hog this game in the game room, at this local Boys and Girls Club when I was younger. That was my first exposure to the Dreamcast version. It was beautiful. If only they would add these same mods to the gamecube version. The Chao Gameplay mod is a bit dangerous the last time I played on the PC version. They wander when walking, and it is easy for you to hit them accidently if they aren't fly following you.

I personally will use SADX for SA specifically for story cutscenes. I’m sorry- the models for in game cutscenes are… eh. For gameplay, yes, I will still use SA1 because it’s better there, but for story.. all you need to see is the “watch out, you’re gonna crash” scene with sonic to know why..

and much more convenient to get, even taking out the legality aspect since that can't be proven if it did happen or not. if we compare clicks since that's generally a way to measure howmuch of an hassle something is. for DC emulator, you need to open your browser, google, type it, hit enter, click website, (probably go to the download section) open download, extract download, go to google, search for SA, click link, download SA, open download, extract SA, open emulator, configur emulator. (which is already setting up your controller, video settings, audio settings etc) and then start up SA. meanwhile if you do it through steam, or through any store front. open storefront, search for SADX, buy it, download it, run it, done. it's just way more effort and likely takes quite a bit longer for something that 95% isn't going to be bothered with, I like the Sonic model more in DX than OG (and i've played both OG's as a kid, so for me nostalgia should point torwards OG)

DX has no lighting engine, has many missing textures, ugliuer textures or even wrong effects, one building is no longer consistent with the level it's attached to, models lost in detail, the framerate breaks animations and an enemy's AI. The list goes on, but it's as much as saying that Sonic Genesis GBA is the "better version" of Sonic 1.

To be honest even with all of the “screw ups” of sonic adventure dx I still think it is the definitive version of the game with all of the graphical advancements it added, the metal sonic campaign, and superior character models

It has lower quality textures, outright glitchy textures, inconsistences with base material, missing audio, missing textures, loss of the lighting engine (which screwed the ambiance of some levels), and many more problems that make the game UGLIER than the original, no. Superior character models? They all look plastic-y, they no longer fit with the NPC models, Amy has odd hand proportions, Sonic lost his blur effect, Tails has a glitchy tail animation now, Knuckles no longer fit with the other echidna models, Big lost his shiny eyes at night and Gamma outright has a texture going over his light. Graphics aren't everything but DX clearly look uglier. Hell, on PC, Station Square and Mystic Ruins have the same ground texture between day and night, which is just bad. The Leon enemy no longer work correctly, his AI being set at 30 FPS, but they didn't change it. The cutscene skipping function IS nice in DX, but they half-assed it, as it has no transition and one time can crash the game. Also, Metal Sonic is badly rigged in DX, dude can't stand up or fly very far. Mods had to fix him to work as intended. Playing SA1 on PC with mods is SO satisfying and repair what devs should have done, even if you prefer DX's stuff.

If someone was talking about what it was to them, I think that DX has a place. I played DX first on Gamecube. I still play it on Gamecube for mostly Chao Garden related reasons. I only recently got a Dreamcast to play the original, so if I was talking about what the game was to me, I'd be referring mostly to Sonic Adventure DX on Gamecube.

barly any people bought a dreamcast and the technology they had back then it was very difficult to get a screen shot. but what's the point of using emulation to play the og sonic adventure when you can get mods for the dx verson or play it on real hardware

It's the worst version of the game to use, it's incredibly glitchy, ruins the lighting, gets rid of details, removed reflections from windows and uses updated models that really don't fit with the rest of the game world.
