Honestly, if the PS2 didn't overshadow the Dreamcast, I honestly believe Sega would have a next-gen or something similar to the level. The Switch is on a "mid-gen" console, but I still feel as if Sega would still be making consoles right now if Sony didn't pop off the way they did

If you read/watch the history about why Sega failed, it's pretty clear that they actually lost the console wars back on the Genesis, when the in-fighting really took off, when they made a bunch of bad decisions (like Sega 32X), burned a bunch of bridges with the Saturn design & launch, etc. It was a miracle that Dreamcast even happened, and it's all the more special for it.

They didn’t lost any console “war”, they had to retire from the hardware market even before they could compete with PS2 and NGC. If we compare the other consoles in their 3 first years of sales DC sales aren’t that bad. DC in 3 years sold 9mln units NGC in 3 years sold 9.55mln units Xbox in 3 years sold 12mln units For SEGA wasn’t enough due to a series of bad decisions and conflicts among JPN and NA division.

Unless they just had different wrapping over there (games that are rare in the West tend to be bountiful/a-dime-a-dozen in Japan, so it could be new...), it's probably just wrapped at the store. Japanese stores are all about wrapping everything/making sure, even used things, stay pristine/feel good to open (for the most part).

I'm about 12 years old and I really wish I was born around the era of the NES. I've always wanted to try all these consoles when they first came out. Like the sega genesis, SNES, NES, GameCube, Dreamcast, Xbox 360. I found a lot of interest in the ps2 as well but if I ever got it I would probably only play god of war 1 and 2.
