Hi DIY PRO, quick question. Can I use power strip and extension cord made for use in US and use it in thailand knowing the Voltage in US is 120V and Thailand is 220V. I am moving there and wonder I can use it there to connect things like vacuum cleaner, computer, phone, lamps or air fryer, blender or fan. I am not sure it is safe. Thank you!
@-DIYPRO-12 күн бұрын
It depends. "MOST" cords and power strips are rated off amperage and not voltage so theoretically you shouldn't have any issues as long as the amperage is low enough.

I recently got a Vulcan OMNIPRO 220 and it says to not use any extension cord for it, does that mean I can’t use it with an extension cord even if it’s capable of handling the voltage? A beginner welder and still learning sorry for any confusion!

I always thought it was strange when those older 36v golf carts had bigger cables than the 48v. To me it was backwards but not the case.

Just like shotguns, smaller gauge = larger size

I've been using a step up transformer to power my ac. Only after it started to trip i realised it must be the cords I'm using. This backs up my claims😅 thanks

Thankyou for posting. Good info. One question if you don't mind... do those _multi-tap_ outlets or power strips cause more resistance than a single outlet cord? I plan to use a _25ft 12awg cord_ to a single _power strip,_ to hook up several things... 2hp compressor... jobsite table saw... table router... miter saw... drill press... and 3 dust collectors. Sounds like a lot right? But -- -- The strip is rated at 20amps (supposed to be anyway)... with 6ft 12awg cord. -- And only two tools will operate at any one time. Tool + one dust collector. -- Of course nothing will be not be on constantly, but intermittantly. So to me it sounds good. Any thoughts?

I believe that is a marine DC Chart from Blue Seas Marine Switches, Circuits & breakers. AC voltage drops at higher voltages changes the amperages and distance.
@parexc0710 ай бұрын
Yes, Correct. That chart is for a DC wire gauge and will differ from AC gauges.

The 10 gauge cord you got for the titanium 125, is it a 25’ or 50’? Do you think a 50ft 10 gauge is a ok size or just get the 10 gauge 25

I got the titanium flux 125 is the cord you got the 10 gage 25ft one from harborfreight i need a extension cord for my titanium welder to 😢

Got a Mig 140. Do you recommend that extension cord as well?

Excellent video and information. I bought a 3-foot extension cord that is rated: 14/3 (don't know what this means) and 15A (125V/1875W) and 14AWG. Is this extension cord safe to use with a portable AC unit that is rated at 11.25A or 1350W ? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@mikewolf53674 ай бұрын
14/3 means 3 14 gauge wires (one hot one neutral and one ground). As for the rest of your question, you need to see what else is running on that circuit since most homes only have a 15amp breaker in each room and you don’t want a high powered device kicking on while the AC is running. Remember everything connected on that circuit is cumulative. If you decide to use the extension cord I’d recommend monitoring the extension cord and the outlet itself to make sure it’s not getting warm or hot. If it is, stop using it obviously.

Must have been late 60s-70s; it was an upgrade from aluminum wiring. Of course you only needer to plug in a fan or a lamp. Be super careful with a space heater.
