I admire the integrity and the courage you have shown in owning the mistake. We all learn as we go and it is clear that your intentions are to help us along the way, we are learning together and what better way than to have a physician guiding us. I am happy and excited to have found your channel, I just recently became a member of The Collective group since I just learned that I have osteoporosis. Although I have not been working out as I should have, on the days when my diet is poor, I have been using a Whey Powder called muscle feast, they source their whey from Europe which has more stringent regulations, not sure if they still source from A2 beta-casein cattle, this was the case up until 2 years ago when I reached out to them because I am lactose intolerant and also because I want to avoid triggering inflammation. It is more expensive but at least I know it is what it says it is.

I really really respect this re-evaluation of past advice. This kind of transparency fosters trust. I’m sensitive to whey and a lot of other animal proteins, so I’ve been using a sprouted unflavored plant protein to which I add additional lucine. I also use Optimal Aminos. After being vegan for about 30 years, I’ve started adding some animal protein back into my diet based on your thoughts on the topic, which I’m doing deliberately and slowly, starting with fish (which I seem to be tolerating very well). I, too can admit a mistake when confronted with evidence 😉

Big kudos to Dr. Doug for admitting his mistake! Most people would sweep this type of error under the rug and quietly remove the product from their recommendations. Some less ethical people would ignore the new information to keep sales incentives flowing. Not only did Dr. Doug own up to the error but he created a detailed video of it, researched the root cause for the error, and provided advise for other options (specific brands forthcoming). It's refreshing to see such a credible and knowledgeable resource of health information. The YT and OsteoCollective communities are very lucky to have Dr. Doug as a resource! My main source of protein powder is GF Whey Protein Isolate Cold MicroFiltered. I'm fine with using a blend of GF Whey Isolate/Concentrate as long as Isolate is the primary ingredient. It's cheaper, mixes better, and tastes better. However, people with dairy sensitivities have more problems with Whey concentrate vs isolate. I also mix in a combo of plant protein into my drinks. It ends up being about 1/3rd pea/hemp and 2/3rds Whey. The plant protein sources provide fiber and I figure balance out the whey. Probably not needed but my wife is sensitive to dairy proteins so she only uses the plant protein blend (and collagen peptides). If she didn't buy the plant protein I would just probably go with Whey. What are your thoughts on Egg White Protein as an alternative to Beef protein powder for those sensitive to dairy?

@@lisayoga Whey Isolate should have zero casein in it. However, for anyone with a severe allergy to casein they should avoid all dairy due to potential cross contamination during production and packaging.

Really appreciate the honesty. We all just act based on the information that we have at that time and as long as we make the proper corrections along the way, its all good. I had seen beef isolate on the shelves but didn't know much about it. I've been using New Zealand grass fed whey protein powder since I started working out seriously a year ago. I looked very sarcopenic and have since put on 1.5 inch to the circumference on my biceps so my protein intake is likely adequate. Hopefully the bones are following suit with their strength. I just had a look at the amino acid profile on the container and it's almost 4 g of leucine per 35g serving.

@anne-louisegoldie10 күн бұрын
I've got a few at the moment. Pea isolate and hemp, collagen with elastin and hyaluronic acid, and, literally yesterday, I started taking whey protein powder. Thank you for highlighting the Leucine component. I have heard about leucine before but had assumed my collagen and plant powders were adequate. I've seen leucine powder sold by itself, so if I can find a gluten-free one, I could add it to the plant and collagen powders. As you say, we don't want to waste those, and it's quite expensive for all these supplements. Thank you 😊xx

I tend to add either whey protein, egg white protein or beef protein isolate, depending on the recipe I am using it in as they don’t react the same in all recipes.
@MelloCello559 күн бұрын
I have been using a raw, organic, whey from pastured cows in Ireland that has supposedly been checked for and passed heavy metal contamination. Then recently I joined a Facebook “challenge” for weight loss and we were supposed to use plant protein powder which is supposedly easier to digest. I do some of each every day, since have them now, and also Healthy Bones collagen powder and essential amino acids powder, all because these are easier and lower calorie than Whole Foods for 100 grams of protein per day. I’m trying to rebuild a bit of muscle and bone with strength training.
