Ken Parker I’m assuming you don’t have a original win7 disc to fresh install, Well, since you’re on Win10 (which sucks) you should be able to call and get tech support from Microsoft, and ask them how to get it back to your working Win7. Since the Update is a No Go and Win10 won’t or just isn’t running. Look around YT and google good, there’s probably a solution. Long as you didn’t wipe out your Win7 before updating to Win10, I feel sure there’s a way to get back to 7.

MrSammy The computer may not meet the specs to run Win10. I updated to Win10 back in 2016, when you could upgrade, give it a try, then if you didn’t like it, or just wanted it to get a little age behind it, You could Roll back. I agree with a Fresh Install as well, if your 100% sure you’re going to be OK sticking with OS. I’d personally rather run A Linux Flav, over Win10. Takes some getting use to, but still really solid.

A MAJOR part of why I refuse to upgrade to 10 is the following; -Windows 10 is pretty damn invasive. The updates happen at the WORST of times, and they're forced. This means that if you're working on an important project, or trying to play with people, the system will screw you over. This happens even when you change the Windows Update settings. -Windows 10 gaming support is really bad right now. Game devs are trying to work around it, but games made before Windows 10 will have a lot of issues. I know this first hand because my partner's machine is a native Win10 computer, and there are CONSTANT problems with it. -Older programs that work on 7 may not work on 10. This also extends to drivers for hardware. This is problematic for someone like me who uses specific programs for their work. Windows 7 has been more than faithful for me. After the flop of Windows 8/8.1, and everything I've experienced with 10 and others around me have with 10, I won't be upgrading to 10 until my system totally dies and just opening a browser immediately infects my machine.

Sometimes even when you access trusted sites you could get malware via vulnerabilities anyway, it can sneak into your system without your knowledge. When I was using a pirated version of Windows xp, at certain times, I kept on getting messages saying that this will install (the name of a rogue antispyware) onto my system, and I had to try and prevent it from installing. I had to run scans with antimalware from time to time because I cannot get windows updates. You will be vulnerable if you use an unpatched operating system. MS as usual is utterly useless in providing information to fix this (they just say it is likely to be driver error - no clue about which one). I have tried all the many and varied solutions on the web, including reviewing the setup logs. So what am I supposed to do? Give up on my perfectly good machine, because MS cannot be bothered to provide a proper error reporting system? In fact, what I can do, is give up on MS altogether, and move to Linux. BTW your statement about those who do not wish to give their data free of charge to a company without a clear statement of what data is being collected, and with no option to opt out, are "complete whackos", is insulting. I was happy paying for an OS in the past, if it was professional and properly supported, but free of obscure "telemetry". I can live with the choice of the Google model of giving me software for free if I am happy for them to mine my data. But MS seems to want it both ways: they want my data, but still expect me to pay £££s for the software. And I don't have smart meter for my utilities.

I have been a PC tech for 30yrs and whilst I agree with some of your points, I can also say you are equally wrong in many others ! Yes I repaired many Windows 7 machines riddled in Malware but it wasn't so much to do with the security of 7, it was usually down to the biggest security threat of all,,,the end user. It was usually the same customers with the same problems that no amount of security could protect. If you visit bad sites, download cracked torrents and click on flash adverts saying "click me to win a free iPad" then it makes no difference whatsoever what version of Windows you are running, it's going to get humped.. I used 7 since Beta and still use it on this old laptop I am posting with and I have never had any kind of Malware infection whatsoever. I even took up a challenge running 7 with no AV for a year and had no issues. If you understand your computer and know what you are doing then running Windows 7 is no less secure than 10, some would argue that it's actually safer considering the privacy nightmare of 10. Remember when XP retired,,we were told the earth would burn and the sea would boil if you continued to use it unpatched and "nothing" happened. 7 was the best version to date, it's secure, stable and does what a OS should do, run your programs and shut the fook up. Everytime I use this old laptop it just feels like sanity is restored, it doesn't beep and bong every 20 seconds or thrash the hell out of my HD running all sorts of crap in the background constantly dialling out, it does "not" look dated and it doesn't require a nuclear power station to run it. The on;y time to consider stop using 7 is when 3rd party browsers stop supporting it which is still roughly a year away..

MIcrosoft refuses to support one of their best operating systems in favor of one that's far worse. Maybe Microsoft should learn a worthwhile business model from mechanics. And do your viewers a favor: stop trying to scare them. It's not the privacy that's the huge issue. It's the crap updates, it's the app removals (per Microsoft, not the PC's user), it's the lack of stability (compared to Windows 7). My computer belongs to me, not to Microsoft.

Windows if I use it for a week it slows down and feels bloated, Linux I can use it for a month or more and it's still fast. Linux do hoave their down falls but I prefer Linux more than Windows because Linux is what I was wanting when I first switched to it. What made me wanting to stay with it because it's growing every year Linux is getting better. It's like having a baby and watching it grow and improving. I'm not here to tell people to switch to Linux because I don't care what OS you're using Windows works good stay then but there's always an option to use Linux and there so many ways to use it. Ok here's the thing Windows pc's are popular targets for malware because they hold such a large share of the market! Linux share of the market will continue to grow thus guaranteeing it too will become a popular target for malware! So keep encouraging people to use it an before you know it linux will be just as popular a target for malware as windows is! Currently windows 10 has 47.65% share of the market Linux only has 1.4% this is why Linux gets attacked less. you can bet as soon as linux crosses the 20% share line it to will suddenly be found to have just as many flaws as windows and will become just as plagued by malware. it's not a matter of if but when!

I had to upgrade to Windows 10 for a few reasons. The biggest reason was for accessibility. I'm blind, and I have to rely on a screen reader, and screen readers are beginning to discontinue support for Win-7. Also, Win-7 on my laptop, which was around 3 years old at the time I upgraded it, began to have serious problems. It wasn't recognizing USB storage devices, and any time I performed an update to Windows, I would lose all sound, forcing me to get sighted assistance restoring my computer to a previous time; eventually I had to call the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk to help me disable Windows Update. Eventually I just got tired of dealing with the problems, so I upgraded, and have had little to no issues. I don't like the stupid ribbon in File Explorer, but that can be disabled. Microsoft Edge is an absolute piece of garbage, but I downloaded a program that lets me uninstall it. It's strange: I got a newer computer running Windows 10 right out of the box about a year ago, but it doesn't run anywhere near as good as my older computer that came with Win-7. I probably would never have upgraded, or gotten my newer computer, were it not for the difficulties I described in this comment.
