I feel like this is the ultimate reclaiming project. Finished yarn back to fiber, foward to yarn again. Such a creative idea I would never have had!

I have been saving scraps because people say they can become stuffing for amigurumi. I don’t make amigurumi…. Thank you for justifying my hoarding. I have also been wanting to get a drop spindle.

this is so much easier than I thought. I wish I didn't have this information, I already hoard yarn and now I'm going to hoard my scraps too 😂😂 but it's good practice to avoid waste like you said so I am justified ! 😂

Really, I hoard the scraps in the plastic bags they used to package cotton remover pads. So hoarding the bags, the scraps, the clothes that can be deconstructed to repurpose yarn or make T-shirt yarn, etc. If ever TSHTF in the future, I will have loads of material to work with. If it won't, the people that have to clear out my house after my demise should be crafters themselves, because if not, they will never understand why I kept certain stuff.....

It seems so obvious, and yet it never occurred to me! I've just been keeping yarn scraps assuming I would use them as stuffing or figure _something_ out eventually, but this is way more exciting (and involves learning a new skill/craft, which is always welcome!). Fabulous idea! As a knitter I always have a ton of scraps. Longer leftovers I use to knit patchwork look mitred-square jumpers and blankets, or knot together to knit a "scrap jumper", but a lot of leftovers are too short for either of those options. Also sometimes I end up with a ball of yarn that got decimated by moths. The moths/caterpillars are gone, but a lovely, pricey, natural fibre ball of yarn is now lost. This is a great way to recycle those.

Omg thank you!! I always recycle my or my family's sweaters, but some sweaters are not recycle friendly. When that is a case, I cut it and tied up the yarn. Usually that yarn is only good for baskets and decorations, and it's not nice to work with. Now I have more options 😁. My family have a few spinning wheels, like the one from sleeping beauty, but I'm not sure if any of them still working, and how to use it 😅. Maybe I should just buy one from this century 😂

I've recently been using my hand spun odds and ends, all wool/wool and silk blends, to add interest to my wet felting. I'm mostly a weaver, but I started spinning on a drop spindle just over a year ago and I love it. I can highly recommend starting out with a top whorl as I found this easiest to use, but I fell hard down the rabbit hole and now have 8 spindles of 7 different types!

@@karlijnscorner Cotton scraps can be cut into small pieces and separated and strewn about your yard for birds to collect and make their nests out of. Just make sure it's a natural fibre like cotton and not too long that it can tangle in birds legs

I've never tried this before but I would assume that it would still work as long as the fibres are still intact enough to grab onto something.

I was working with a merino and an alpaca blend. Any yarn that is kinda sticky should work though! Acrylic, wool, alpaca etc are all fine! Cotton probably won't work and any yarn that has nylon in it might be a bit more difficult to card but if you combine it with 100% wool or alpaca f.e. it should still be fine!
