This is NOT a sponsored video. I only mentioned clicker heroes 2, because generally I don’t support dropping hacks like that, but the context here was different, which I wanted to explain. And I thought, if I basically show a hack that kills their business model, I can also be nice enough to mention their other games. It’s an indie dev studio I would like to see to succeed. Good for you to be sceptical! But German laws would require me to disclose any form of sponsorship and legal trouble is the last thing I would want. Hope that makes sense!

@Leon Mercy the question is - do you TRULY enjoy wasting it?
@MisterL2_yt6 жыл бұрын
@Leon Mercy I'm not sure I agree on the motives. But for example, playing video games with friends is no less a waste of time than playing hide and seek. But browsing dumb reddit memes that don't even make you smile, just to cure boredom, or checking up on random news, just to keep you busy, keep you from being bored. THAT is wasting time
@oneheckofabanana20165 жыл бұрын
That is a very short-sighted thing to say. So if e.g. I need to pass a test to start a great life long career but instead of studying I enjoy playing games resulting in me failing the test and missing the career, then that time was not wasted?

This advice... It's pure gold! I took it myself and I learned quite a bit. A short backstory: was playing Borderlands 2, mainly down to endgame. While the experience points are shown in Quest Log menu, they're not visible on the HUD. This took me to creating a BL2 xp tracking program in c#. While doing this I learnt to use pointers in Cheat Engine, I learnt to invoke WinForms elements from another thread, learnt to properly try and catch exceptions(uni course just touched on that very slightly), and I've started to study on how to read and write to memory addresses in C# without any additional libraries. It's basicly put me down to a rabbit hole of finding more ways to make these new skillsets useful in another ways. What I want to say is, Thank you, LiveOverflow. This really motivates me. You have earned my subscription.

What I find works immensely well is changing the scenery completely for your free time. Going from programing to gaming at the same desk, same computer, same little room, same cramped seating really doesn't help things at all, you just end up thinking about the work even more. So move out of the room when relaxing, go clean something, cook something, take a bike ride, or run, meet friends (even nerds might have some), or whatever you can find that is not related to your work room, might sound like it's no big deal but your brain gets a fresh new perspective on how your work is really unfolding. Studies have also found that you learn faster if you let your brain relax away from your work and let it figure some things out in the background.

I like this mindset and it also helps me to motivate myself. What hurts my motivation is the lack of a proper foundation. I can program, I write the occasional simple script, I know linux basics and I use those skills in my professional life as a software engineer or in devops - but when I have to go down and dirty to the binary / hex level, memory analysis and manipulation or reading decompiled code I still have a hard time recognizing what I'm actually looking at. Trying to manipulate simple games is a fun way to try to get my feet wet.

Thanks for pushing this message. About the only thing I ever did was play video games. But what I did learn from them is in order to master you're craft, you must practice, practice, practice. Games were certainly not helping me financially, so I literally stopped playing any games, and really any other form of entertainment, and practically spent all my time learning to code. It probably helped that I have passion for problem solving. But thanks to this effort I put into programming, when I went to college for Computer Science I was leaps and bounds ahead of my peers, which allowed me to have a couple of coding jobs during school where I worked 8:00 AM to 4:00PM (sort of, since I had class during the day of course) which gave me not only free time to study in the evening, but cash to spend as well. And thanks to this passion for it, I don't think I'll ever have to worry about my financial situation again. Love your videos too, by the way. Keep up the good work!!

You should start writing code in c# It will open for you so many doors, And you can do almost anything. I remeber a few years ago when i started coding in c++ and c# i was only using basic console input -output, from there i was able to build basic algorithms and basic ui designs. And now im able to build full project with multithreading, databases, networking, advanced math, and im able to solve alot of complex problems in the code. I can tell you it will be so hard to learn to code and even more hard to solve glitches and bugs. But once you fix all those bugs and you complete your project you will feel proud, and accomplishment. Never give up, start small and grow big!!! Good luck Coders! :) (Sorry for my bad English)

I was anxious to click on your video because of the title... because that mindset made me miserable. Burning out is a very real thing in the infosec community, for the reasons you mention. I spent whole days on reddit doing nothing, just because I'm just tired. Even the thought of playing a video game (to relax myself) makes me anxious and I ended up procrastinating the "off" times. At some point I decided it's ok that I don't produce much research or learn new languages and techniques. I'm ill and I should focus on healing, hacking and career opportunities can wait. Recognize the signs of burn out early and slow down before it's too late. Thanks for your video.

You are never waisting time. If I didn't play games I wouldn't have learned to write faster on my keyboard (helpful when your writing essay) I wouldn't have communicated with other and learned to speak English much better(I'm from Sweden) I wouldn't have understand that I wanna do something else with my life and if I haven't had that thought I wouldn't be so smart and learned so much and just age 14. Hacking is not only very educational, the challenge that security poses is very fun. And recently I actually had a similar scenario as you were talking about here. Although on a much smaller scale and difficulty. As I had been resting, I was playing a visual novel and that vn was uploaded online in html5 format. I was missing some very important CG, so what I tried was to obtain them by other method than via story, because I had tried 14 different ways and failed everytime... In the end I spent hours analyzing that html code, s and other things... But managed to crack it. I caught a glimpse of not only the locked CGs in their raw png form, but also found out that the one story line I had been trying to unlock was Patreon-only content. However, I caught a preview of the Patreon only content without being a patreon, so I was more than happy with it in the end. I learned a lot more about html from it and it motivated me to try and get into hacking.

I think, thinking of hacking as purely ethical, and you're doing it to help others, basically, and not just hacking things for the sake of hacking, is pretty helpful. I think "cheating" is not really considered hacking, but, as long as you learn something from it and know how it works and what it does to the system, I guess "cheats" are actually helpful from a learning hacker's perspective. Bonus points if you've made the "cheat" yourself and reported it to the developer(s), afterwards.

I've made changes in my life because I had had similiar problems with further studying new things, gaining new skills etc. I graduated, started working, got to pretty decent salary and I felt like I was standing still which besically means running backwords. At least for me. And I couldn't find proper motivation, too. But I knew that I wanted to learn developing software. It was always somewhere in the back on my head (Im not IT graduate). If anyone has a problem with motivation, I suggest making a schedule. As simple as that. Just plan when to do what, for how long etc. You can include breaks for entertainment and relaxation. Another good thing is to also include a sport in your schedule. Just train something you like to stay somewhat in shape, it helps your mentality a lot (not to mention your health). And that's a good start. Just do what you have to do when you have to do it. At first it'll probably be hard and you may have to bring yourself to do it but do it and it'll pass soon, trust me. Usual trouble people have is with the start. How to start, what learn, where to seek for knowledge. It's a common problem. I suggest making a goal e.g. "I want to create a game about this and that". Of course at first choose doable things, simple things. Every goal will encourage you to get better and dig deeper. Simple projects are great because you make them work, they are overall bad but they work and after a month you go back to the project and rewrite it and you see how your knowledge changed and how you improved and how you are able to write your code way better. And when you get hooked (and you will), you'll start learning even more than your schedule say. You'll start giving up on the entertainment and replace it with studying. Your training also gets into your blood and your body will demand it so you start to like doing it. Your knowledge in what you chose to learn becomes useful when you get all the basics and some practise and you'll think of new things to create and you'll want to complete them and see them work asap. That's how I got into it and I don't need a schedule as much as half a year ago let's say. I just like studying as much as I used to like e.g. playing video games. I gave up those for good and I even shouldn't have to. I just started to feel like it's not so interesting after all and it's pure waste of time and studying is way more interesting (that may feel weird for someone to say). And I didn't feel that way before, too. I liked the salary, I liked free time, I didn't mind wasting time. I mean we all have that sense what's wasting time and what's not but we can't really do anything about it and just keep wasting it. That's pretty much it. No rocket science here. I also put aside some money and I quit my main discipline job to have more time to study and learn things faster. And now I'm about to start making money as software developer and I found a friend who also started learning the very same thing and we're about to start doing a project together which may even by sold if we get lucky a bit. And to sum up, I recommend NOT watching videos about how to start doing something and just start doing it. There'll be no better time, you won't be better prepared for the start, you'll suck at first, that's unavoidable. Swap those videos with tutorials of what you actually wanna do and do it along with watching tuts. Knowledge these days is everywhere and mostly for free. It's just your own laziness that's in the way. I still find myself wasting time sometimes but now I can notice that it bothers me so I can actually fight it. And don't listen to other people telling you what you should or shouldn't do. Most of the times, you know what's best for you. I also add that I had been able to play games for hours and watching films and youtube shit before I changed everything so I probably was in the very same position as most people reading this or watching video above. No one's gonna do your push-ups for you. No one's gonna utilize your potential except you. Most boundaries are inside our heads. Good luck

Relates to me very often. I know that feeling all so well, i basically experience it at least two times a year where i absolutely cannot learn for one to four weeks. I like to think about it as my mental seasons. Meanwhile i allow myself to have these breaks as long as they are in a rational timespan. After a short time playing games bores me out anyway. Thanks for your view. Just found your videos and they are really great. :D

I'll learn you all another lesson. You need to take a time off to do somthing else like gaming. Don't learn 24/7. You will get a burnout. Trust me. Ive been there. Peace✌️

couldn't relate more. The good thing is that I have an arsenal of projects so if I burn out on one, I go to the next.

Erdem Balli He's used Ubuntu in the past. Arch is better for most purposes however because the software is up to date but still very stable.

Come to Arch... get Manjaro or Antegros if you're new to Arch. They're Arch-simplified.

STOP WASTING TIME… Watch this video. Anyway… I barely play video games. I still play too much though. My free time is like 90% C, 1% xbox, 4% reddit, 4% youtube and 1% fapping. I clearly could spend 10% of my time fapping. But instead here I am.

A time enjoyed is not time wasted. Remember life isn't about achieving materialistic or heightened knowledge (not to me at least). Keep yourself happy, and people will be magnetized towards you.
It's like you read my mind and made this video. Unbelievably relatable and true ^^''
