I’m disabled and no longer able to have a normal life. I’ve been living vicariously through you lately. I was a super organized mama, organic gardener, gymnastics coach. I’m not stuck in my bed for about 80% of the day. But God is good and has taught me so much. I now have peace and joy again bc of Jesus Christ. I’ve always dreamed of having a life like yours. I commend all the hard work it takes to conquer all the everyday tasks. The photography and videography is so beautiful. You are such an amazing and beautiful human. Ur videos always help me to feel a little more normal. Thank you. Love the cute skirt too!! ❤

To keep your pesto bright green, wait to salt your pasta water and blanch the basil leaves for 10sec once its boiling. Dunk them straight in ice water and lay them out to dry for a few. Keeps the pesto from browning.

Theres a good saying " cut your cloth accordingly" and i find having that mind set stops you worrying about money. People seem to always be chasing more money . Yes it gives you or allows you to do what you want but i have found it does not make you any happier. When my family were children we would make a picnic and go to the beach during the summer holidays or just a take a drive down at the week end and take anyone who wanted to come with us. Those were lovely days. People waste money on things like coffee and sandwiches instead of making them at home . Yes im getting older but i see where some people will just do not see how much they spend. Anyway thank you for sharing. I do enjoy watching your home life and its a great way to make money. What a great life for children:)

You are so right! Having money only solves the money problem, it certainly does not solve any of life's other problems. My husband and I raised 4 children during times of unemployment and underemployment for my husband. We really struggled for years. But now the kids are all grown and we have a much more financially stable life. However, the other issues and problems of life have not magically gone away. I think it's so important to find the joys of life beyond what money can bring. ❤

Lovely Lisa, I adore rainy days. As a retired grandma, I adore lounging all day on my porch, snoozing on and off listening to the rain and especially during cooler weather. I have given myself permission to be lazy here and there. I keep up with the basics, and the occasional deep clean. I don’t have any junk drawers, and have always been a very organized person, so up keep is relatively easy. Of course, it’s only the hubby and me. Outside takes more of my time these days. Chickens and gardens!😉

Good comparison between managing our finances and managing our life responsibilities. When I paused to consider it at our age of retirement and grandchildren I could see that it still fits and could also see that we’ve been navigating in a similar way without realizing. That without the same pressures and responsibilities of our youth we can ‘afford’ to give much more into our grown children and grandchildren at this stage.

I'm 60 years old. I've been married for 40 years and our priorities have always been our family, love, support, good nutrition and the ability to pay our bills (my husband works full time and I have always worked part time when my children each reached the age of 2). I have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. It's lovely to see that you also value these traditions. We've always cooked from scratch, with the very occasional takeaway or ready meal. We also grow some of our own produce. Herbs and fruit mainly. There's nothing like a home cooked meal. I'd rather cook something than eat out to be honest! BTW, I am extremely envious of your vintage American stove....I would love to own one. I'm from the UK and they're very expensive to import!

I can so relate to this. My husband has a hoarding disorder, and doesn't think he needs counseling. I am a cancer survivor with several health conditions that limit what I can do, so a simplified house would be the only way I could stay on top of things. When I start to feel like the struggle is him-against-me, I find it helps to reframe things in my mind. I stop and remember WHY I want a decluttered house. It's for the peace, and because I want to be a good homemaker and take care of my family well, and because I want to practice hospitality and represent God's kingdom well. Peace: being honest with him in a loving way and enlisting him to help me figure out how to make the house functional brings a lot more peace than resenting him. I also ask myself which brings more peace: an organized home, or a strong marriage? Homemaking: I have to stop and think about how I define being a good homemaker. Does it mean having an organized home? Does it mean that the house is pretty? Does it mean that everything is handled when it should be and I am able to stick to schedules and stay on top of things? No, because of my family's unique needs, those things can't be the standard by which I judge myself. For me, being a good homemaker means that I prioritize my family's health, there's food when people are hungry, everybody has something clean to wear, and everybody feels loved and cared for. At the end of the day, I don't ask myself if the house is clean; I ask myself if I spent my time well. Representing the kingdom: this is the toughest for me. My answer to this has to be that I can only do what I can do. Most of the time, we don't have a lot of people over. There are a few people who have known and loved us for years, who understand the challenges I face, and don't judge me. Those people come into my house regardless of what it looks like, and I focus on feeding them, making them tea, spending time with them, whatever, instead of what they're seeing. If someone outside of that circle needs to be in our home because they have a crisis, I have to let go of my pride and prioritize ministry. Either they become part of the inner circle eventually, or they drift out of our lives, and hopefully they will remember that I showered them with God's love, rather than what my house looked like. My husband sees security in keeping things, and I have to remind myself that, in his own way, he is also trying to take care of us. When he brings something in, or refuses to let go of something that we obviously do not need, it helps us be on the same team if I ask a lot of questions. What are we going to use it for? OK, then it sounds like it needs to be stored . Oh, look. That's full. OK, how do we make it fit? Maybe if you're keeping this, then we don't need that other thing that fills the same need. Which one works better? OK, if you're keeping them both, then what else can leave this space to make them both fit? That sort of thing keeps it us-against-the-problem instead of him-against-me. I hope some of this will help you. Much love.

Would you mind sharing a list of things in your budget/not in your budget anymore, that are unnecessary? If people want to comment too that would be great! This way we can be aware of what others consider unnecessary and open some ideas for things we can consider changing! Thank you!

Love that black and white checkered skirt. I take photos every year w my daughter and i have worn the same black and red checkers for a few years in a row. My daughter got a black and white plaid dress from my mom and im leaning towards getting or posdibly even making one for myself so we can twin again but w a different twist.

Honest question, how does Kiwico fit in with a simplified house? We have received subscriptions as gifts, or even received several boxes at once that relatives find unopened at second hand stores. My kids have the *hardest* time getting rid of the boxes, the special treasures, even the extra pieces from Kiwi stuff! HA! And we are a family that declutters -often-. Have you had to deal with this? How do you manage it? They are *crushed* when presented with the idea that the extra pieces are in fact trash, even after holding things for a while to let the newness wear off. It's really quite the struggle 😆

Lisa, your videos & advice are so inspiring & amazing. Your family is blessed to have you. I think we cannot discount ~ in the very beginning of our family journey ~ we must make sure to marry (partner up with) a person who has the same life goals!! This person must be someone you can work with together. The beginning “honeymoon/love bubble” phase wears off. There will be challenges - can you work them out together & work together for your family?? I see that so clearly in you & Luke - the love & working together for your family! That Beautiful Family is a lot of work for BOTH partners. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us! Love & Blessings! 🙏🏻❤️

I want to see one video where you order a pizza, let the house go, and watch a movie with your children. Adrenal fatigue is a thing. ❤️ We need to be careful not to have Martha-like work habits so much so we don’t have time for “Mary moments”. Taking quiet time to be with the Lord is bigger than doing “all the things”. ❤️❤️❤️ Remember this sweet mamas. Especially those with lots of little ones. 🙏🏻❤️

As a mom with a similar life (cooking meals from scratch, homeschooling, homemaking), a lot of these tasks ARE fulfilling. Cooking is something I love doing, I enjoy providing for my family, and the nourishment from our meals gives me satisfaction. I love having a tidy home and I enjoy working with my children to keep it that way. And doing lessons with them is literally my favorite part of the day. 😍 You're absolutely right that spending time being together and hang out is imperative, and the goal isn't a picture perfect house, but I also think that this idea that ordering pizza and watching a movie is the ONLY way to unwind is incorrect and damaging. Mamas can lead a restful life even if they do these things.

Lisa talks a lot about not doing everything, making choices about what you invest your time and energy in, and prioritising the things that give you the most emotional and practical payback. She's not a perfectionist and gives a lot of advice on how to avoid burnout in homemaking. So while I understand that watching her do all of this work can still feel daunting to watch, I do also think she's really already showing nuance and encouraging people to find their own balance, that works for them and doesn't have to look the same as someone else's. Maybe ordering pizza and watching a movie is your unwinding, while hers is different and she doesn't show that particular thing because it's not what has to happen for her to feel rested. Your way of relaxing is fine, so is hers.

She openly says she has those days...but this is her business. Her business is very particular. The aesthetic, the clothing, the food, the bread, the linen sheets, it is all part of her brand. She has to stay true to that as well. This is not a mommy-tell-all-channel.

I really envy families who eat the same food. My husband and I are interracial couple who grew up in different cultures. He doesn’t like my food at all and there’s some things I don’t like that he grew up eating. We have 2-3 different meals in our home. It’s always what’s worked for us. I’m just lucky that he does cook. So he and I cook our own food. But we get judged a lot from others but it’s been working for us for almost 17 yrs that we’ve been married. But I still envy families like yours that eat the same thing. No wonder why you enjoy cooking for them.
