This project is ok but without knowing the level in the tank turning the motor on is not a good idea. If tank is full and you turned on switch then the purpose of the project is useless

See, in my project the water wastage problem is solved completely. Let me explain In case that water tank is completely empty, we know that it will take time to fill that completely so we can set a timer of 4 min and turn on the system. So no water wastage it this scenario Taking another case like you said, what if the water tank is 75% filled. Well here let's assume that we are not aware about the exact amount of water stored in the tank but what if we are alone in the house and we need to go to toilet urgently and are not sure weather the tank has some water or not well what we can do here is, we can set a timer of 1min so that whatever amount of water the tank has, adding more water for only 1 min won't make that overflow and secondly that person (in the toilet) will also get enough amount of water he/she needs in case the water tank was about to get empty. Again No water wastage. Hence I put different time intervals here.

It's an interesting concept! I've actually wired up & maintained water and sewerage plants, we'd never use a solution like this, than again for your low cost application I do admire your efforts.

First of all, it's way more costly than what I use. I use a BC547 transistor with a buzzer and electrodes to detect the overflow as shown in one of the projects in the video. It costed me just 15 ₹ to make it. (Excluding the cost of wire which I had already lying around). Yeah, in 4 months (3-4 times a year), I have to change the electrodes, but atleast it's cheap and very reliable for the next 4 months. Secondly, In your project, how to know which timer to use if we don't know the level of water in the overhead tank? It's the main drawback of the project. Suppose if the tank is 75% full and as we don't know it's level, we pressed for 50% (half the timer) then the remaining 25% water will be wasted. And that's a huge waste of water. We try to save water, and end up wasting more of it.
@madhukeshnp

Points to be noted. Agreed. But dipping electrode is not long lasting idea. The electrodes may get a thick coating of salts and minerals from the water and stop conducting. A float switch must do the trick. This way there are no metals coming in contact with water.
@PiyushNikam
@PiyushNikam Жыл бұрын
@@madhukeshnp yeah, float switch can be a good option, but it has its own drawbacks. The metal contacts inside the switch itself may corrode due to the humidity inside the tank. In that case, you have to either change the complete assembly of the switch or clean its contacts, which is more of a hectic task. For me personally I don't have any problem in changing the electrodes 3 or 4 times a year. It hardly takes 15 minutes.

@@techiesms okay, I understand. The first case is absolutely fine👍 But the second case is very very specific and a rare scenario. So the timer will be useful only for that specific scenario and not for everyday tank fill-up. But if we somehow manage to measure the level of water, then this will be a great project. And I for sure, know that you will make this a full proof project in upcoming days. We just need to find a reliable and low maintenance way of measuring water level. The day we find that, I'll hook this everything up into my Home Assistant.

I have added one RO float valve in one box with small holes at bottom of it. I have added that box to the water overflow pipe of tank. Once water starts to overflow it raises the float valve and closes the circuit for the water tank full indication. For water level indication I have added one recording module with my custom recorded audio in it. I also added one small solar panel to charge the battery. It's almost 6 months and it is working fine.

This is a good concept. But the downside is, you cannot make it a commercial product as you will be asking too many questions from clients such as 'How much time it takes for their tank to be filled?' What if they decide to start the pump when water level is half way? I WILL SUGGEST THAT YOU MAKE A PROJECT WITH ULTRASONIC SENSOR, THE WATERPROOF TYPE WITH BLYNK, SHOWING WATER TANK LEVEL AND ALSO THAT CAN BE TRIGGERED AUTOMATICALLY WITH BLYNK AUTOMATION SETTINGS AT SOME CONDITIONS AND WITH MANUAL TRIGGER THROUGH A VIRTUAL BLYNK BUTTON. THANKS

I spent some money and got a waterproof sr04 from Bangood 8 few months ago. Completely flawless operation eversince. I have full monitoring on app and announcement on echo and message on telegram bot when tank is full or empty. I can easily control a contractor or relay to turn on and off the pump but just avoiding too much automation so that my parents can turn and off based on notifications.

I would have added a water flow sensor connected to a esp at the overflow pipe of the tank. And added a second esp at the motor control switch. And let them talk to each other via wifi. That way we won't have the hastle of setting rotary switch. Also as a failsafe i might add a second flow sensor at the output of pump. So that i can precisely track how much water has gone to the tank and turn off the pump if it exceeds the tank capacity

Hi, Thanks for the video. The idea is good, the making and alignment is a bit critical. Can you please make this 1. by utilizing ESP now; one MCU transmits the overflow signal and the other acting on this signal. In fact I was planning to add a ready made smart switch near the switch, connecting parallel to the manual switch. Then we can have manual, auto, timer, voice control options. your suggestion is appreciated.

RF ransmitter, RF receiver and a floating switch . RF ransmitter switch is connected to the floating switch once it's got signal it transmits the signal to the receiver. it turns on the pump. ( If we use the solar and rechargeable (for night time) batteries it's a long last . And using esp board we can also disable the signal from RF ransmitter and also switch on and off the motor wireless and get the feed back also .it's my thoughts to make a project any suggestions please share And we can also use Lora boards for flat buliding .

Knowing the level of water is good, but extending such long wires is hectic. that's why I said, I made this project just for my home.
