Sonic characters were literally designed without being a certain race in mind. Jaleel White, the 1st Sonic voice (if we're not counting commercials) has gone on record saying that he wanted to make Sonic sound "raceless" that's because Sonic was not designed to be black, asian, white or hispanic, so people going around claiming that certain Sonic characters belong to a certain race is downright laughable to me and feels as if they are trying to segregate them in a way.

I'm surprised there's zero mention of Sonic movie 3 at all considering Shadow rooting for the heroine in the telenovela was a direct reference to the meme according to Jeff Fowler himself. I think the joke was played off in the film pretty tastefully though, he wasn't outright simping for Gabriela because she's Latina, just admiring her as a person. And it's honestly kind of cute lol

I never had good social skills in the first place, but I’m definitely more socially awkward towards women than I probably was before (other than teachers and family). I actually commented on twitter about this yesterday, I keep getting oddly specific things in my feed with Sonic, over and over again. It seems mpreg sonic is the "thing" right now, bearing the child of shadow/amy/surge/etc (that is indeed a sentence I just made). I never searched up that specific subject it just showed up. As well as just interpreting the character in such a way it has very little to do with the source material at all. Like, it might as well be an OC, but they wanted to ride that engagement and used an official character.

The difference between Brazilian Miku and the Shadow Latinas thing is that Brazilian Miku exists for the sake of Brazilian representation. It's not explicitly fetishization. The Latinas meme is just a person telling us their racial preference for a woman, disguised as a joke by projecting it onto a character and coating it with supposed irony even though Shadow's words simply reflect the opinion of the poster.

I think the reason I don't see it as funny is that I can see right through the intention of the "meme". It's just someone expressing which race they wanna bang. It reminds me of like, right-wing opinions played off as a joke. Like you know, those memes of fictional characters saying extreme things but it's played off as a "meme" that the fictional character is saying and we're supposed to believe that the "meme" totally doesn't reflect the poster's opinion and laugh it off. Unless it's canon or has some really good merit to it since it'd make thematic sense, shipping is the cancer of the Sonic fandom. I can understand it in a jokey sense, or if you're doing it for fun.
