It was ASL, and the deaf community loved this episode and the show if you do a bit of research. They loved it because it was one of few shows at the time offering closed captioning

You left out the best part of the Will Wheaton meeting William Shatner story, Shatner was apparently such a major dick to Wheaton that he became visible upset and ran off set. He was found crying by Michael Dorn (Worf) who asked him what happened, after Wheaton told him Dorn offered to go find Shatner and kick his ass

Fun fact: the guy in the hat in Riva's chorus - Randy Oglesby - later plays Degra on Enterprise Also, 59:58 - this actually describes another Enterprise episode (Similitude) exactly! Loving these pod casts... keep 'em up :)

@24:00 There is a comic I read where everyone could use upgrades and change their skin features, hair, knowledge, etc. But there was a few who couldn't mesh with with the technology so that had to go to a normal school etc. I wonder if the blind guy couldn't mesh with the sort of tech that Geordi can.

46:30 it's interesting to see the references in reverse. When you all compare things that came after TNG, I always saw star trek in everything else. It's a fun perspective for your content. I hope you do a grand finale recap of your opinions and thoughts after watching it all, because I find myself thinking, oh just wait an see until you get to this future episode. I am definitely enjoying your content. This is in my top 5 episodes of all the series yet alone TNG series.

It's interesting that Lavar Burton wanted to get rid of the visor, he is seen as a good representation for blind people not needing to be "fixed" if I am not mistaken
@pincushionllama Жыл бұрын
He wanted rid of it cause it cause him a lot of pain to wear it.

@@pincushionllama that's what they made up in universe as a thing for Geordie but it only surfaced and then went away in the 2nd season. It was not painful for Lavar Burton the actor, although it did obscure his vision.
@pincushionllama Жыл бұрын
No it WAS painful. One of the question he was asked at the talk I was in with him (I was front row in this) was asked, "Did having the visor removed changed your acting style at all?" his response was "Yes, I was no longer in pain from having to wear it. It was painful to wear so it made it a more enjoyable experience for me to act"@@qsquared8833

I don't want to rude, but why would blind people not want their blindness to be fixed? I get that this disablity does not define them or make them less a person and I get that they manage to live well with it and not want to spend the rest of their lifes yearning for something they don't have and don't want to be pitied. But if there WAS a possiblity to cure blindness, wouldn't they still want to take it?

The chorus is Freudian id, ego, and superego. Id is passionate, instinctual. Superego is socialized, cultured. Ego bridges the two-allows id to be satisfied under the rules of society. Hope this helps!

According to an opinion from Reddot, Riva is using ASL... As for Geordi, they are using VISOR because it's easier to make him temporary blind, when scene requires it. If he had prosthetic eyes, they would have either technobabble them or pop them out accidentally. He gets artificial eyes in "Star Trek: First Contact". Actually my friend sneezed his glass eye out in second grade. Our teacher ran out of class, weird behavior for for someone teaching in school for the blind and visually impaired.
@wjzav197110 ай бұрын
They also use the Visor as a deus ex machina whenever the scene requires it. Like Macgyvering a laser out of it when they are held hostage or Geordi apparently being able to tell whenever someone lies, an ability that of course never gets brought up again.

Yeah, Betazoid food's pretty boring, from what we've seen in the shows and elsewhere. Fruits, grains, leafy greens, and shellfish. Mediterranean diet, basically.

From what we have seen, these people were very ruff and paranoid and basically told Picard to shut up and get Riva when he wanted them to stop firing at each other. So I assume they didn't trust the Federation.

You know, as far as I'm aware, part of the reason these first half of the season scripts seem so half baked (and this is the 2nd or 3rd time you guys are mentioning it's like they wrote half a script) is because this was during the writers strike. The Borg which are coming up in a few episodes we're not supposed to be introduced by Q, but they had a lot of half baked scripts and had to modify them sort of by the seat of their pants.
