Strange, I don't get this large number of views now. This was posted several years ago. I inherited the gramophone from my elderly neighbours in the mid 1960's. They bought it new around 1913. Its a rare 'Marathon' machine, designed to play Marathon discs, which due to their narrow grooves & 'hill&dale' soundwaves, play up to 50% longer than conventional 78's. The soundbox can swivel, enabling it to play conventional discs too. Glad you enjoyed my posting of You've Got To Laugh' Your comment didn't post to KZbin, but I did receive it as an email notification.

These are amazing Paul, and I love your arm sneaking to put the needle on the record!

+Arthur Garry King Thanks Arthur! The arm does not appear in later uploads, I now use 'Movie Maker' to edit my videos & usually start each one with a view of the record, sometimes in a cover with advertising for long gone gramophone & record stores.

Glad you emjoyed. Think this was recorded c.1910 & to my mind these early Harry Lauder records are among the best. I also uploaded an early 'I Love A Lassie', 'Roaming In The Gloaming' & 'A wee Deoch & Doris' Moving on to the 1920's I also have 'Road to the Isles' & Keep Right On To The End Of The Road' Thanks for viewing.

I've got that one also, he recorded it several times over the years. Have not uploaded it yet, but an early recording of 'I Love A Lassie' is on my channel, a good lively record & classic Harry Lauder.

Was lucky to find this at a record auction many years ago. Now, more than ever, its a pleasure to share something laughable! Reminds me of the Scottish entertainment every New Year's Eve on television. There was Andy Stewart, Kenneth McKellar & the White Heather Club Scottish Dancers. A night of Scottish songs & comedy like this was a wonderful way to see the New Year in.
