Understated, underrated genius. I adore this bloke, no one sits in that pocket like Mr Gould, a childhood hero and playing better than ever.

The reason I started playing drums in 1987 and still my biggest inspiration to date. Thank you Phil

Phil Gould is an absolutely brilliant drummer. Such understated taste in his playing. I've read a few times and in a few places that Jeff Porcaro was a fan of his. I think that says it all really..

One of my all-time drum heroes. It's ridiculous how stunningly well he can make the (usually) poking jagged accents of odd time grooves roll along like there's not sharpened at all. It's like Vinnie with Manu's flow. Phil became his hero, Harvey Mason, for his own generation/Gen X. The dude playing 80s pop's straight'sh beats with the sick R&B pocket of the 70s greats. That made funk fusion danceable and into *actual songs*, the ringer musician chops tetris'd into the 4/4 format.

I started drummin in April of 86, after a trip where my Dad The Beatles to my attention. Not long after Toto's I'll Be Over You was released. You, Mr. Gould, along with Jeff Porcaro would become lifelong sources of inspiration. This all after I spent years chasing chops, playing prog metal, and the such.. I recently integrated the groove approach of you three masters, and the results have been life changing. Even after 38 years of drumming. I just want to thank you, Phil. I absolutely love your playing, and am thankful to have been able to enjoy for so many years. Thank you. Dan.

This Man, This Drummer, This Musician, was, IS, & will forever be to me like a percussive version of Mozart, a Beethoven , a Bach ; because his feel and pocket feels like liquid gold giving nuanced sophistication & joy to his creations. Phil's talent is some of the best to ever grace the drum kit in my opinion & to my ears😊. Phil's skill, sheer musicality and sensitivity born of so much creative passion; demonstrates his push and pull on time & rhythm when creating with others. I absolutely love his incredible mastery, of sound, tone and grace of touch with those sticks. I will ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR THE DAY HE chose to POUR HIMSELF INTO THE KIT AND MUSIC. He & Jeff Porcaro give me goosebumps. I met Phil when I was a young man in Camden Town seeing Dennis Chambers play... Phil was my musical hero and he spoke to me briefly when introduced with warmth, & excitement at seeing Dennis and with so much humility the encounter really delighted me and is ingrained forever. HE was cool then but from then on his music and feel have remained the elusive haunting 'song' inside that I foolishly try to somehow externally replicate in my own fashion when I play on my kit. A lovely person...who is mesmerising to watch and listen to & food for my musical soul. THANK YOU MR GOULD!🎉❣Thank you for the music and for all the sacrifices it's taken to create all that you share & develop.😊👋
