Great video, I push the piston back in by putting the old pads together back to back (metal side), back in the piston side of the Caliper just loosely put the caliper back on and put a large screw driver between the pads and lever to push back caliper. Stops damaging the piston.

Sir - the next time you do this, just turn your front wheels to full lock. Get in there with a very long breaker bar on the 21mm caliper holder bolts. I did this yesterday and they came off incredibly easy because of super leverage of the breaker bar. Easy peazy.

If those rotor screws strip,get a manual impact driver and smack it hard and itll take the screw out. If not, get a 4 lb. Sledge and beat that rotor like it owes you money and itll snap the screw off since they are soft metal. The to keep the rotor from spinning, use a wheel hanger pin, super cheap and makes it easy to put the wheels back on

Nice video thanks. How long did it take to toast your stock rotors? What org sponsors the autox you race in?
@BryceJordanProductions6 жыл бұрын
My stock rotors aren't all that bad actually, just wanted a little more asthetics and I needed new pads anyways, figured I'd do both at the same time before more aggressive pads rip the stockers up. Not really many sponsors for autox, a local dudes shop does along with Pepsi through him, then random others do throughout the season, local VW did last month so that was pretty cool.

I've seen so many videos of people changing pads with so much "meat" left on them. Is it a USA regulation / inspection thing? Certain mm required etc?
@BryceJordanProductions5 жыл бұрын
Depends on what state/county you live in. My county has no emissions or anything really.. you can drive around with turbos out the hood and a parachute on the back lol. For me though I just wanted an upgrade. The stockers are known to go quick and the fluid can boil on simple courses
@JacesOwnWorld4 жыл бұрын
For most of us car enthusiasts, we change our brake pads out for a more aggressive one mostly because we just want a harder "bite" when it comes to braking. For my MK7 GTI application, I found out that my stock brakes (just base model GTI brakes, not PP) are sketchy under braking when Im getting on my car. The stock pads overheat very quickly, especially when its hot outside, and become almost useless. I'm IS38, and if I can't feel confident with my brakes slowing me down after doing 120+mph, then I know its time for a brake upgrade, and getting better brake pads aren't that expensive, so its something that I did, even if my OEM pads had "meat" on them still.
@jbob71484 жыл бұрын
You might want to invest in a set of quality jack stands. Working like that on a corner of your car with only a floor jack just makes me cringe. Edit: Seriously, I don't like to leave comments like this but seriously dude the longer I watched this video the more I couldn't believe it. You had both your legs straight out under the car with only a floor jack NOT SAFE. Begging to be a double amputee. For all of you people just starting to work on your cars. This is not how you do it. Even with quality jack stands its a good idea to stick a wheel under the frame because jack stands do fail.

You should replace the carrier bolts. The bolts have stretched. They cant just keep stretching over and over. 147 ft/lbs is a lot of force, there's no good reason to remove these bolts...the break cleaner spray doesn't clean any better with the part off the car or on the car . LEAVE SOME SHIT ALONE. You don't remove an engine from the car to clean it....you spray some "shit"on it.
