I got the S95D because I have the big windows with the sun shining directly in. My previous 10 year old TV was absolutely unwatchable at any time the sun was coming in. So I chose the S95D specifically because of the anti-glare. I have not had the same experience you had with glare being spread out. When the sun comes directly in the window and directly onto the screen, yes I can see the glare. The glare is in the shape of the window, not spread out. The glare is just a white blur, and not a sharp mirror-image like on a glossy screen. More importantly, even when the glare is there, I can still clearly see the image on the television through the glare. We do have blinds, but they aren't completely opaque. They are the kind that simply reduces the sunlight coming in, but the room is still extremely bright with them closed. No, we can't change them or do anything about this. The point is, that with those blinds closed, and the sunlight merely reduced, but not even close to being eliminated, the S95D is completely glare free. It's very comfortable to watch, as if the room was dark, even though the room is very bright. Previous crappy TV was impossible to see anything. We couldn't use it at all during certain hours of the day. S95D, no regrets. YMMV

That’s a good point you should see it in person. I’ve seen matte screens before many times and just don’t prefer them. One thing to note is that the professional displays that they edit on are usually matte finish and they are always in a light controlled room. Personally I’m not certain what’s the point of this tv. There’s probably a reason TV companies haven’t been making matte screens displays. This is not a new technology not at all. Looking forward to seeing it for myself. When I watch TV, I usually watch at night or if I watch it today I pull the shades so again I’m not sure the purpose of a matte finish TV. And from what I’ve heard thus far from Brian, this TV seems to be best in a darker room.

What would be interesting, and I have a feeling... the s90d will be equal to a s90c 2nd gen modded (512) in service menu to s95c brightness levels (they did reduce 2nd gen to ana peak 512 from 588 to get that 20% push for upcoming next gen) . That gives the 20% brightness increase, and could be exactly the same exact thing that they can charge a higher price for. It will be interesting to see a s90c vs a s90d at some point, especially if anyone was brave enough to do the +20% s90c mod for brightness.

C. Intentionally pushing a proven defect part into uninformed users so some of them give us the benefit of the doubt and repurchase next year in hopes of a fix? D. Free griller Box, so you can cook your stake on it while consuming your favorite media? E. Eye Care feature, take a free black screen every few minutes of TV usage to relax your eyes? F. Always bet on peoples ignorance, some people think it must be a premium feature since it costs more right? RIGHT?? Correct answer = ALL of the above. Bonus Feature: Portability and low weight. I was initially considering the 77-inch S90D here in Australia and almost bought it, but after reading reviews and articles, I discovered it has a WOLED panel. I visited a store and compared the 65-inch S90D and S95D (both with QD-OLED panels) side by side, and immediately noticed that the S95D had a cleaner image with no reflections at all. Currently, in Australia, the 77-inch S95D is priced around AUD 7,999, while the 77-inch S90D is on Black Friday sale for about AUD 3,900. The WOLED aspect of the 77-inch S90D really put me off, though - no wonder it’s much cheaper. I managed to snag a great deal on the 77-inch S95D, still AUD 1,000 more than the S90D, but it was definitely worth it.

anti-judder motion should be at 3 to 4 to eliminate stutter while minimizing soap opera; filmmaker is the best mode more often than not (other than Dynamic for sports) and the 2 settings you can play with is Static (dark room) or Active tone mapping with Contrast Enhancer normally OFF in the dark, but you can play with Low to Medium for a little more pop. Shadow Detail is 0 at default but you can decrease it by -2 for deeper blacks in a dark room.

I was planning on buying the the LG C4 77", but reviews just kept coming in touting better color quality and brightness on the Samsung S90D. After MONTHs of personal debate, I've now opted for the S90D to replace my 9 year old Samsung 4K. Then came the new flagship vs the old year flagship and the price issues. This was a VERY helpful review. Nope, I'm going with the 90D. The minimal picture upgrade over the massive upgrade I'm already getting from my old set simply does not justify the price increase. The separate guts box? Nope, I could easily place it, but I don't need it, I'm going 77" for the room, 83" is just too large. And the nail in the coffin is the sound quality. I'm watching a TV, not listening to a symphony hall performance. And I've still got my sound bar for the old Samsung, should it be needed. Costco, here I come, my VISA card is burning a hole in my pocket. Thanks for some extremely helpful advice.

so the S90D is a S90C repacked? the S95D barely improved from last year, kinda Samsung dropped the ball here, what about power consumption? I know they are power hungry to reach the full white, what about the smudges difficulty to clean? are there at least improvements on these regards?

Why in your opinion the s95s don't improved much from s95c?
@woofinu9 ай бұрын
As I understand it, you said that a bright point light source would make the S95D unwatchable. But with that condition, would the S90D also be unwatchable? Did the anti-glare treatment not solve that light-source problem, or did it create or magnify that problem? Thanks.
@stopthefomo9 ай бұрын
S90D will just limit the reflection to that bright point rather than diffuse it outward (“magnify”?) so S90D more watchable but no TV is good with that glare just that the S95D made it worse

I was personally set on getting the G4, but when looking at the screen during upscaling (because we watch a lot of "normal" television), boy the Samsung is worlds better. I mean massively better at taking a bad picture and making it look good. And since we are "upgrading" from a 10+ year old 43" LED Full HD TV to a 65", anything we could buy today, even the most el-cheapo TV, is going to look amazingly better to us. So, to sum it up, because we still watch satellite TV (not always Full HD either), then the Samsung S90D is the choice for us, hands down. In some ways, I can't even believe how bad the LG G4 looked. Sony's flagship wasn't much better. I'm still blown away at the difference, especially in price. But, as my son noted, it's probably because the TV manufacturers are no longer concentrating on making "old" content look good. Maybe true. I'm not certain, because in reviews I keep hearing Sony's upscaling was the best. I just know what I saw and the Samsung S90D took the cake by miles. I mean, it really wasn't even close.

@@Menorahdude I have a Dolby Vision compatible, Full Array Local Dimming Sony non mini LED. Compared to HDR10, I love Dolby Vision's clearer distinction between various luminance levels up and down the gray scale. In case you saw my previous complaints about Dolby Vision months ago, I wasn't fully aware that disc authorers want a display to reach peak brightness in some movies, while they don't want a display to reach peak brightness for other movies. Now that I'm aware of that and appreciate its abilities, I'll either only watch Dolby Vision in dark rooms, put up with the scenes which are difficult to watch in high ambient light, or mix SDR with the BT.2020 color space in high ambient light.
