It's interesting that Bournemouth has been selected as the storage location for BA's fleet, including their widebodies - I'd imagine this is because it's within very close reach of both the main operating bases at Heathrow and Gatwick, as well as BA's maintenance facility at Cardiff. It'll be an interesting sight when - in the event that the situation with the virus has decreased significantly - it's time to send everything back to where it needs to be. Fantastic shots!

@@MrBonafida Yep - that's the advantage of Bournemouth Airport being built on an old RAF base - the Runway was already long enough to handle large aircraft that need longer takeoff runs. If I remember correctly, Bournemouth has even had a 747-8 private jet land there once!

I fear these 747s will never see service again, those those specials were due to be retired first so will most likely have their end of service life brought forward.. Along with many A380s and and 340s this could well be the end for big 4 engined airliners.

Basically, it is the end. They are simply too uneconomical to operate up against two engine airliners that can pretty much do the same thing. Some (400 models) will live on as freighters mostly for second rate companies, with first rate companies flying the 747-8F. But one sad truth is sure, you're going to see less and less of them in the skies. Within the next 5 years I think virtually all the 400 models currently being used for passenger service will have been retired for good .

Despite their size, a B747 on final approach cuts a magnificent figure! Those huge triple(?) slotted flaps, slow approach speed (lightly loaded on a short(ish) runway), and the apparent high angle of attack due to the upper deck all accentuate this. Thanks for sharing this video.

"Landor" is my favourite airline livery. It's magnificently understated and simply oozes class. "We don't need a fancy, flashy livery: we're British Airways." Unfortunately, they have spent too much time resting on their laurels in recent years (decades?) and can no longer claim to be "the world's favourite airline" if many recent surveys are true. I'm probably a bit biased too because it's what I used to see when I was growing up in the 1980s.
