“People are the most important thing in the outback.” While it might seem like a simple aphorism, it’s a way of life for outback mailman Peter Rowe. The weathered postie has covered more kilometres in his time as an Australia Post contractor than most will ever do in their life. Twice a week, Peter packs up his trusty stead - a beloved Toyota Landcruiser - and embarks on a 600-kilometre round trip of the red outback roads delivering mail to some of the most remote towns and settlements in outback South Australia.

Yeah….. I Agree. Once you get the Red Dirt in ya, It stays within. I’ve spent over 35 years in the Center and now I’m in SA not far from the Ocean. She’s a different lifestyle that’s For Sure 😎

Yes! I have to agree with him, there is a part of me that is out there in the Desert, its the most Beautiful place to be, I've seen it covered with the Desert Sturt Pea and Desert Daisies, and can change over night, with Crystal clear nights with Billions of stars, and smells that you only find there. Go and smell the Spinifex. The people of the out back are a very Special and Genuine, GO AND HAVE A ADJENTURE THERE.

I drove the mail truck from Oodnadatta in 1957 600 odd miles once a fortnight. Todmorden, Granite Downs, Everard Park (Mimili)back down to the original Marla Bore, left the mail bag etc. for Wallatina station in the bore shed. Never saw the people from there, that shed is still there today, on to Wellbourne Hil , Wintina, Mt Willoughby, Evelyn Downs, Copper Hills, Arkaringa, MtBarry. Like to go on Peters trip some day.

Deserts are beautiful. I haven't done any serious desert visits in Australia, but I spent a bit of time in Death Valley, USA in 2015 and fell in love with the place. It would be great to go on this trip with Peter, and I see from the comments that someone has. He could set up a side business taking people with him.

A good old salt of the earth fella doing what he loves for his vast isolated community. His photo collection must be awesome.

That shot coming out the door was very nice, i can imagine it as the opening scene to something like The Last Harvest A series about journalists working for farmers that seem destined to fail, to bring in what might be their final harvest.
