Stories of the South | S1 EP2 White Shark Whisperer
Meet Rodney Fox, the White Shark Whisperer who has dedicated 50 years of his life to shark conservation after being dragged to the ocean floor by a Great White in 1963. After surviving one of the most severe attacks, Rodney needed to decide for himself if they were "man-eating monsters". So, in 1964 he got back into the water behind the safety of the impenetrable steel bars of the world's first shark cage which he designed and built himself. Fear immediately turned into fascination; they weren't crazed man-eaters. They were majestic. They were curious. And he wanted to share this message with the world: "sharks are a necessary part of our ocean and we don't have the right the kill them out of fear". And so was born Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions.

An interesting and wonderful person. I've had the honor of being with Rodney out on Neptune Island and diving with great white sharks. This was one of the best moments of my life. My first feeling when I stood in the cage and watched the great white shark can only be described as "Love as first sight".

Such an inspiring story. So brave of him! Thank you for spreading the word that sharks are not 'man-eaters'. They are just another animal trying to survive, like the rest of us ❤

This man is legit one of my hero's! All that he has done for white shark conservation is truly nothing short of incredible. He is the reason I was able to turn my fear of sharks into a love for sharks. Hopefully soon I'll be able to save up and head on one of his great white expeditions and meet the man himself!

I dunno why but this made me tear up! Sharks are so misunderstood (a little like snakes on the mainland, actually). You have to respect these creatures. I love the fact Rodney turned a terrifying experience into something amazing and important. Thank you for a wonderfully shot video!

Rodney really is an inspiration and I love how in tune with nature and reality he is. He understands he was in the sharks backyard and he put himself in that situation. He could have easily started fearing and hating them and calling for them to be hunted like alot of Australians do for some reason. Instead he made preserving them his life's work. Just amazing. It's not like sharks come onto land and maul you in your driveway. I am terrified and I mean TERRIFIED of the ocean because of sharks. I actually think I have thalassophobia (think I spelled that right) lol I would never swim in the ocean yet it never crossed my mind once that we need to kill sharks to make the ocean safer for US. The superiority complex humans have is unbelievable. To go into an environment where we don't belong whatsoever and kill a creature that's been on this earth long before us all so we can cool off or get some albaloni makes me sick. If you go in the ocean you accept the risks of what's out there or dont go at all. That's why you have swimming pools and lakes.

But they do eat people, 2 this year on our south Australian west coast. They say its mostly mistaken identity when they bit, so why do they come back and consume the poor victim ?? I am not for killing them all at all, they have there place and we swim in it. How do we know that both victims this year were not the same shark, did you ever think that the shark your looking at could be a killer shark ???
