Beautiful indeed, Shadrack 😃. Which song do you have on repeat from the album?

@@standardbanksa That's actually not an easy question. Notwithstanding, if I had to pick only 1 song in the whole album though, it would undoubtedly be track 05, The Migration Suite Part IV. The reason why this song stands out for me is because I've always felt that there are 2 streams of South African jazz that fully embody the essence of the country's spirit and can compete with the best that the world has to offer musically: the first is rooted in the traditional school that is in constant communication with the country's ethnic roots and the latter is heavily rooted in the AME church's melodies, which has had a significant role is shaping jazz not merely in the US but locally also. Abdullah Ibrahim has always best embodied the latter in SA - songs like _Water From An Ancient Well, African Sun_ are quintessential representations of this. Of course, there are traces of it in other musicians also that have been great achievements: Mankunku's _Give Peace A Chance,_ Tutu Poane's _Her Beauty,_ etc. It's why if I had to only pick 1 song from this beautiful album - a difficult task! - it would be The Migration Suite Part IV because, for me, it speaks to the latter musical sensibility I allude to above extremely well and I have so appreciated the feeling I get listening to jewels that emanate from that. Whether Xonti deliberately wrote this song with that in mind, or if it was his intended effect, I don't know, but I can't class this song anywhere else but with the latter stream I mention above. Why I say this album is a great offering, what truly makes it a great album, is that the song writing is extremely great but it's also a well structured album with an over-arching theme and the treatment thereof pretty much extends into every song. Every song, for me anyway, seamlessly segues into one another making the whole album feel like one song with very expertly-handled variations in mood and rhythm, which is why I say it's difficult to single out one particular song because they all feel so connected making the album feel like a unified whole. This structure is not unique to Xonti's album, the best jazz albums (generally) tend to follow this form because what it does - and it's certainly the case with Xonti's beautiful work - is that it shows focus and clearly communicates the artist's vision or, at least, pre-occupation. I loved every song on this album.
