MJ was sabotaged, he could have easily ruled the 00s as well. Invincible was selling faster than Thriller before Sony stopped promoting it so they could pressure MJ to sell his half of Sony (look into it its pretty dark). His style will forever be relevant with each new generation. This is why he still has over 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with no promo or releases, and why he is the highest earning celebrity for 10 years in a row and why Thriller goes to number one every Halloween, almost 40 years after it dropped.

Too bad they didn`t count the 50`s and 60`s where The Beatles and Elvis Presley outsold every other artist. I`m even impressed how long they lingered on as they biggest selling acts long after they had retired their careers. The Beatles broke up in 1970, and Elvis died in 1977, but they have sold more records after they retired than they did when there were active. The Beatles was only around for 8 years.

@@yellyman5483 The band may have broken up in 69 but they didn't stop making music. McCartney and Lennon had huge hits that kept people coming back to their older music. Also, people bought the same album again and again - we'd start with vinyl, then get the 8 track for the car. Then we had to get it on cassette for the walkman and ghetto blaster and because the new car stereo doesn't have an 9-track. Then we bought it AGAIN when CDs came along. Then there's the fact that vinyl got scratched, tapes broke/wore out and even CDs got scratched let alone many of these just disappeared on camping trips or sticky fingers. @ShadowOfDeadRhodes2118 күн бұрын
Yeah Elvis was still in the top 11 even years after his death. He left a long lasting legacy. The crap that people in the music industry today make only lasts 5 minutes metaphorically.. I think it's because people want new music but what they get is garbage and don't stick with it long until they're listening to something else. The music today just doesn't grab people's attention the way it used to.. sometimes new things or "advancements" aren't always for the best

Interesting how nowadays a lot of success is from one really popular single instead of albums.
@joshtucker2315 жыл бұрын
Definitely. You look at an older band like pink floyd that fully relied on a great full album becase even though they had hits, there preformance was based off the whole album. then you look at a more modern artist like Si who made one catchy song to get his fame. This is because people used to listen to an album all the way through, especially since they bought Cds or records but now people listen to the top 20 songs playing on the radio and those songs are played and milked for all they have. Although quality always has been fairly important, quantity is irrelevant in the music world now.

One thing that Michael Jackson, Elvis, Beatles, Elton John, Eagles and Eminem have in common: they all dominated each entire generation. Elvis and the Beatles had a fierce dispute in the early and mid-70s and at the end of the decade it ended with Elton John and the Eagles competing. Michael Jackson led the entire 80s and a little of the 90s. Eminem literally took control of the 2000s for himself. We can agree that these 6 singers made an impact on the history of music, marking each generation.

It's a fact that Michael Jackson was on top in 2009 and this chart totally missed that. Also Elvis had no problem being in the top 10 after his death into the 1990s, same with the Beatles who were up there into the 80s. I guess they just forgot to count deceased artists after the 90s because everyone on the chart after the 90s is living.

@@MA-go7ee this has absolutely nothing to do with my taste in music. I just quoted a statistic. I don’t even like Drake that much, im just saying that he’s the biggest selling artist of all time „As of 2017, based on both sales claims and certified units, The Beatles are considered the highest-selling band. Elvis Presley is considered the highest-selling individual artist based on sales claims and Drake is the highest-selling individual artist based on certified units.“ Billboard

@@svenxavierniles9211 McDonald's sells a ton of burgers but that doesn't mean their burgers are the best. Drake is the McDonald's of the music industry. How his numbers are so high I'll never know for sure but I think it's fair to say that technology had a lot to do with it. If the Beatles or MJ had peaked during this time their numbers would be even higher than they already are.
