Reolink has been giving them away like candy. Laura Kampf did a video last week(she drew a little face on it, to give it some personality)😁 You can make them resemble WALL-E or Johnny 5. Very smart marketing move, why still make expensive commercials for media nobody watches anymore. I'm sure they're perfectly fine camera's, but i have nothing worth stealing.😉

As it turns out, there are no safe places these days, and I hope it was Urbexers and not thieves, but cameras are always a deterrent to potential uninvited guests and it's great that you got them from your sponsor to test. Velluto put his paw on your leg, how nice that he is no longer afraid, I wonder where he runs off to and where he sleeps? Very nice door, nice of your neighbour to think of you. Thanks for the video and see you next week.
@storiesfromthecascina6 ай бұрын
We haven''t found his sleeping place yet! He's still a little afraid - some days more and some days less - I think depending on what he encountered "in the wild". But he's definitely less scared than before. There was no imagining him putting his paws on my leg a few months ago :-)
@donataj22136 ай бұрын
@@storiesfromthecascina He definitely trusts you more, and you're right how he behaves depends on what has happened to him. There are days when my indoor cats (non-outdoor) will hear a noise or a strange sound for them in the street and they also act like they are scared of me, which is not the case. I am very happy with your cat's progress and try play you will see that he will trust you more, I know you certainly read about cats because I see how well you approach it and I don't want to lecture you ( you are a wise woman) but the cat loves play, I used to tame all my cats like that and speak to him , say his name so he knows it is him. Being Italian and with my family home also being in the country side, when I started watching your renovation that's honestly the first thought I had: burglaries. It's a real and constant issue that foreign people don't know or understand the depth of. My family home has been broken into several times unfortunately my parents have no valuables at home but still it's scary. At my auntie's, she lived alone in an apartment on the main town square where the church is, burglars went in while she was sleeping and robbed gold and valuables. Another auntie was a nanny for a local wealthy family and one night she went to babysit so the parents could go on a date and before they left burglars broke in robbed them at gun point and held everyone hostage including my aunt and the children for hours. Everyone I know in my family and friends have had burglaries regardless of where they live. All this in northern Italy too. Hopefully your security cameras will be enough deterrent.

I’m not surprised by the need for security cameras, even in your remote location. It is a sad reality of life in the 21st century. You two are probably popular topics amongst the “locals.”. You are “foreigners” who chose to live on the mountain, and had the resources to buy the property in the first place, which prompts certain assumptions. Also, the restoration work you are doing is so interesting - work which means valuable tools. Right here in the middle of America, a friend of mine who is a professional painter has always carried around most of his equipment in his pickup bed. He is now selling the truck because in the last year he has had paint sprayers and full paint drums (worth over $200 each) stolen right off his truck during quick stops! The fact that people are all around, and the thefts were in broad daylight are no longer deterrents. He is looking to buy a large panel van that he can lock up and keep equipment out of sight. Bravo for taking measures to protect yourselves and your property! ❤

Thanks for another great video :) Velluto is so comfortable around you….another milestone in him choosing to step onto your leg! Woohoo!!🎉 I am so very pleased that you were offered this sponsorship….. I have been quietly worrying about all of the tools shown on the videos……it looks like many years of collecting and expensive to replace. It just takes the one person watching with bad intent to see what you have and it’s not difficult to find your property……so the fantastic camera system really is needed. It appears even without your channel there are opportunistic thieves around the area :( The finished doors are stunning……they may have taken many hours of work, but, my goodness, they are a masterpiece of restoration! I love the final colour, it tones so well with the stone. You are both such talented people! Do mulberries taste similar to blackberries? Final question…..do you think the whole of the balcony concrete is reinforced with cane? ….and is that as weak as it seems to my untrained brain? Thanks again 😊
@storiesfromthecascina6 ай бұрын
Much to reply to :-) 1) mulberry is somewhat similar to blackberry but it's sweeter. I really like them. 2) there is actual rebar in the balcony too, luckily! but large parts of the balcony are in bad condition and we'll need to replace the whole thing. a farm not too far from us has replaced their concrete balcony for chestnut boards and we really love that solution so likely will go the same route. 3) our tools are the main reason for getting the cameras.
@KMD28326 ай бұрын
@@storiesfromthecascina phew, thank goodness there is rebar! The chestnut boards will be far more appealing on the eye. Security cameras' will also capture wildlife in your area. This can be informative and entertaining to see what wildlife visits your home during the day and night. Unfortunately theft can be an issue with rural properties when you are out, as there is less likelihood of neighbors seeing them in the act and reporting it to authorities. So windy... a shame you couldn't put in a simple wind turbine to harness that energy for electricity... Solar panels would also be helpful to provide lighting to outbuildings and exterior or even, emergency hydro back-up during prolonged outages.

Aaah our beautiful surroundings! We have taken our viewers to the seaside not too long ago, and also to nearby towns and villages in previous episodes. It may be time for another little trip soon though :-)

After publish the video you should change the camera places. Camera and charging unit should not be so easy to spot. Also it’s reachable and can be destroyed. It’s better to put it closer to the roof.

Thank you for your concern! The optimal placement for security cameras depends on many factors. In Europe for domestic security cameras it is recommended to hang them between 2 and 3 metres. Any recordings heigher than 3m are considered useless. It's also obligatory by European privacy law to make clear that your property is being supervised.

that is really strange and we can't do much about it i'm afraid. i noticed your question several times and each time have gone to check on the video if i could enable portuguese subtitles and each time it worked for me. i also know other people watch our videos with portuguese subtitles because i can see it in the statistics of our channel. i really hope you can find a solution and i'm sorry it doesn't seem to be working.

wonder why metal doors are so common in Italy and Portugal? You never see that in residential areas of the USA.

In security you think in layers(a greek principle ) you installed intrusion detection and a monitoring system, that is the first layer. What are the next layers?
@storiesfromthecascina5 ай бұрын
it sounds like you have an idea/opinion on what the next layers should or could be. you're welcome to share if you like ☺️
@fonsschoemaker25775 ай бұрын
@@storiesfromthecascina , the next layers could be , a dog, solid strong doors, in the shop, strong closets for the expensive machinery, compartimatation of rooms

we are continuing to improve our doors and locks. extra, lockable storage would be great. but a dog, no thank you very much 🤣 i feel burned out even just thinking about it. also dogs are absolutely useless when you're away from the house for a week or so - because you can't leave them behind to hold the fort.

I think Brutus should mount the cameras higher , so the are out of reach without a ladder.

Just awful how you have to Watch out for thieves where you live there. It's just terrible. Never would have thought there'd be a problem with that there but I guess people that are greedy and thieves are everywhere. Sorry that you have to have that happening In that beautiful place. I think the cameras will really deter them when they see them on the house!
