Storing 35lbs of pinto beans long term

Remember, if you think your beans have gotten to old, or to tough, grind them up to almost a powder and use it as an additive to your soup mix. A dual purpose bean. Don't forget to add some baking soda to each jar also!

If you add some baking soda to your beans when you cook them they will soften up just fine. The sodium ions weaken the pectin and thus soften the beans. Simplistic answer without getting too nerdy 😁. I add a small bag of baking soda to each store of beans then I don’t have to go look for some later 👍 Be blessed and have a beautiful day 🌿❤️

Can you vacuum seal the amount you would eat for a meal then put the sealed packages into the bucket or do you need to put them in Mylar and then the bucket. Just two of us so all those beans would be wasted if opened at once. What about rice? Thank you.

you can get smaller mylar bags sizes. most important step is to put beans in freezer before you put them in storage to kill any bugs that are more than likely in the beans also add bay leaf for added protection. I have one bucket of different types of beans in smaller vacuum seal bags in 5 gallon bucket so far so good on them I prefer mylar for long term to be honest on dry goods such as beans but it is possible to use vacuum seal bags

Why do you need food grade bucket? Why not mylar bags with 5 gallon buckets from lowes or Home depot? Just curious man

if your buying buckets from home Depot,Lowes, harbor freight or Walmart they more than likely hdpe2 which are food grade buckets. you just do not want to use buckets that had paint or other chemicals in them due to possiblity of contamination.
