When you said, "there are some babies in the lid here", I thought you were talking about that sticker that tells you to NOT put your babies in the bin. 😂

So glad your going to do an outdoor bin!!! Tomorrow im going out to my moms new place out in the country to help her start her worm bin...iv split one of my bins so she can have half. It will be outdoors in a open air shop. She excited , next spring shes gonna need all the castings she can get!

I noticed a cocoon in your castings. We sift our castings to remove them but that's because of our breeding system. Those look like nice castings. It is amazing how well plants grow with castings. Nice vid!

Homesteaders Discovery I know I have A LOT of babies and cocoons. This is why I plan to bait some out in an attempt to overwinter the worms and see how that goes! Should be interesting! Thanks for watching!

The Crazy Worm Lady Haha, yep. Everyone of them. I have some red wigglers and ENC right now. Tempted to get some ANC after watching yours. No worries for my bins so far, hopefully they'll keep through the "winter" we get in Florida.

B H I would find it hard to imagine them not being able to handle a Florida winter. Up here is where we have to worry.
@brianh76916 жыл бұрын
The Crazy Worm Lady I'm not too worried. I think I'm going to keep some indoors so I don't have to worry about them. I'm going to get some ANC from you in the near future though. I need those and some Canadian nightcrawlers and I'll have them all haha. I think the native ones here are Alabama Jumpers (if that's their actual name) from what I can gather. They are quite the entertaining worm haha.

B H Canadian Night Crawlers do not do well in captivity. I look forward to hooking you up with ANC soon.

Can you put the castings in the garden in the winter?

How long do you think it will take to fill that tote up?
@TheCrazyWormLady6 жыл бұрын
Boodieman72 oh I think it will be full in the next month or two. I am going to dump whatever I have before the end of October into my garden with the fallen leaves. It will be ready then come spring. Then I have the tote to fill over the winter!

How did you harvest and get the worms out prior to this?
@TheCrazyWormLady6 жыл бұрын
Cesar Lopez it depends. Sometimes I bait them out, sometimes I just sift the castings and get the worms that way!

Hi... For how many days/months/years can I store the vermicompost? Is there any particular way to store this... Please suggest
@TheCrazyWormLady5 жыл бұрын
Subbaiah S T store in a container similar to your worm bins. Keep moist and provide aeration. I keep mine in a large 40 gallon tote with holes drilled in the lid. The castings will remain healthy and usable for several years if kept moist.

Do you make the worm tea for your garden or do you use it as a top soil/mix it in to the soil?
@TheCrazyWormLady6 жыл бұрын
Amie Jeapes I make diluted worm extract tea (non-aerated) and use the compost in seed starters and directly in the garden!

Hey Emily, I was wondering if you might be able to answer a question I can't find an answer to on the internet. Is there a direct correlation between the nutrients you put in vs the nutrients in the finished compost? Say, you did a bin with tons of calcium, would there be high levels of calcium in the vermicompost..... vs let's say you used none or little, and a finished product lacking in calcium supplement? Or with anything else.... Potassium/Nitrogen... Just wondering! Thanks! Love your videos, you've turned me into a nutty worm dude (trademark pending). Still getting my 2-week bin acclimated, but it's been fun.
@ElderandOakFarm5 жыл бұрын
I dont know if this answers ir ? But most of the benefits of worm compost is the micronutrients and microorganisms. The main purpose/use isn't for the normal npk...

Great information. I need to get a worm casting bin and a sifter basket like you have. 👍 Wow cold temperatures already. Down here in Florida it was 93 degrees today. Can't plant my fall garden yet because it would melt. LOL 😄

Melinda Schneider we will have nights down in the 30’s before you know it! Up here (Maryland) it isn’t uncommon for cold temps to creep in by the end of October.
