Great editing and attention to all the details, especially showing the damage and NWS products + siren activations. Really wish you would’ve been in east central Iowa in August 10, 2020! The damage across pretty well the whole state was…incredible. Plus, you know, PDS SVA and a double upgrade…woah. It’s unfortunate how there was essentially no national coverage of this, even though it was the most costly thunderstorm in US history, by a landslide. Really shows their true colors.

Thanks!! Yeah that sounded like a hell of a storm, and like you said, a storm that didn't really get much national attention. I think it just goes to show that even though it wasn't a "tornado outbreak" doesn't mean it can't be impactful, dangerous, or costly. Those derechos deserve a lot more attention than given.

It's a very normal thing around here. Some places activate for severe thunderstorms under tornado watches. Others like to activate if the winds are greater than a certain threshold. A few activate for all severe thunderstorms. Can it be a bit obnoxious? Probably. But I get why they choose to do so.
