Drive-By Siren Ambience 6/1/2020 | Huntingburg, IN (Dubois Co.Tornado Siren Test)

I decided to try something a little bit out of the ordinary and did a drive-by siren test in Huntingburg. Siren coverage in this town is pretty saturated, especially with the old sirens in place. Unfortunately, the Model 7 at the utilities office has been having problems lately and failed this test. It usually does five minutes of attack. I've been told it's being decommissioned, but I also heard they were fixing it. Hopefully the latter is true. We started our drive at OFS's 2001-SRN and worked our way to the 2001-SRN by the railroad tracks. Then we dashed over to the new 2001-130 that replaced an STH-10, once we realized the Model 7 wasn't working.
With the exception of Jasper, Dubois County tests the sirens every first day of the month at 6PM. A simulated tornado warning is issued within 911 dispatch and the sirens are sounded for the full cycle. They recently completed an upgrade and now they poll the sirens as they're being tested.

Amazing job! I loved the way you stitched together the drone and in-car footage, and the quick reaction when it was clear that the Model 7 had failed to activate. We don't have much in the way of emergency alert sirens here in the UK. We used to have a WWII air raid siren at the end of my road when I was growing up in London, that had been repurposed for the Cold War, in case of a nuclear attack (yey for growing up in the 70s and 80s) though when we moved out of the city, we used to live just on the edge of the Broadmoor siren network (for if someone escaped from the maximum-security psychiatric hospital) and I always enjoyed catching those tests. Shame they've all been decommissioned now in favour of cellphones, Twitter and TV..

Nothing wrong with redundancy, especially when it comes to public safety. Out of all the times I've recorded here, I can only remember one time where the siren failed the first set of tones.
