That’s a really effective harbour. Even with waves breaking over the wall, most of the moored vessels are bobbing quite safely

The Cobb is doing exactly what it was built for. Wonderful video of my hometown. We have seen huge storms in Lyme over the decades and come out the other side.

Well done, James, great drone footage. We first read about the Cobb at Lyme in Persuasion then watched "Ciaran" Hinds and other cast members walk along it. It's fantastic to see this now. Thanks for sharing it with us. ATB from Western Australia.

Top notch drone work. Drones have totally changed the way we visualise natural phenomena, especially it seems when the sea or ocean are involved. Drone footage of surfing for instance is incredible when done well offering unbelievable perspectives that a stills camera just cannot match, although Mike Moir images of surfing shot with his camera on a pole were impressive in the 1980's and 90's. But drones take the whole thing to a new level.

There's a few places along the south coast that could take a lesson in building effective sea defences from the Cobb at Lyme Regis!

@@christianburch479that’s right! A 249 gram Mini 3 Pro. It was incredibly still which I wasn’t expecting. A little windier at West Bay when I flew around an hour later but it still coped. Didn’t even need the Mavic

Well, the boats aren’t even moving…and the large structure isn’t even getting wet by the waves, so it looks like the barrier is doing an exceptionally good job. Just one of those waves would wipe out the lot of them, had the barrier not been there.

Great video: tonight, I’ll imagine myself in the loft of one of those buildings on the Cobb, cut off until the storm subsides, just a candle for comfort (while it lasts) but secure in the knowledge that the Cobb and the buildings have weathered worse storms…

Drone technology is fabulous and has given us a birds eye view, but the old technology that built the Cobb is much more impressive 😂 it protects Lyme under its sheltering arm so amazingly well.

This was at high tide as per the description 'Captured on Thursday 2nd November 2023 at high tide (9am) at Lyme Regis' . The harbour behind the Cobb usually dries out at low tide.

Nice one. what were the winds like? Doesn't seem to windy. Obviously drone handled it well. think the worst gusts (according to windy)my mini2 has managed is 35mph, and that was struggling in normal mode, had to use sport to get back home 😬

It moved south otherwise the waves could have been double the size. Gusts of about 80mph last night but the waves peaked this morning

A 249 gram heavy Mini 3 Pro. There was basically no wind at all. It had picked up by the time I got to West Bay down the coast but the Mini still managed it fine!
