Trying to finish up the last field of wheat, but a weird storm made its way through. This brought multiple tornadoes, hail, wind, and lots of rain to some pockets.
Located in south central North Dakota, we grow variety crops (barley, rye, durum, wheat, oats, corn, soybeans, flaxeed) and run simmental/angus/saler mixed cattle herd. Always looking for ways to improve the operation and what I can do to improve the soil I farm. My name is Brooks, and I hope you can learn something and maybe I can learn something from you.

Glad you're having a good yield in your Harvest is going good. Nice to see the great white combine did not come and help with Harvest

Crops have been solid all around... Super impressed with the light gravelly soils this year. Seems like the heavier soils had more drowned out or thinner areas... telltale sign of the wet year.

Lucky. Prairie storms are nothing to laugh about. Plenty of tornadoes growing up. Hate cables. Always stab your hands.

The one cloud you filmed back at the farm looked like a funnel cloud.

Oh feeling sassy this week with 2 videos? 😂 Nice. where is the video of Brooks shaving using his hedge trimmer 5000? Looks like harvest is going ok.?

Lol I think the hedge trimmer 5000 might not be enough... might need the 9000 with the upgraded serrated knives. Overall it's been going. Wheat and flax is done, going to try soybeans this weekend.

If corn silage, potatoes, sugar beet etc can be dumped into a truck while the harvester keeps going, there is no reason why wheat cant be dumped into a semi while the combine continues to harvest the wheat. By eliminating the tractor and cart it means less augering of the grain which means less fines in the grain, less diesel used, less wear on machinery, less manpower required, less soil compaction of the soil since a tractor and cart dont have to drive back and forth between the combine and truck. This will mean higher profits.

Most normal years only places where I see compaction in fields is around wet spots from planting or spraying, and where the loaded trucks drove. We tend to leave a lot of stubble behind and our trucks don't have a lot of clearance... don't need debris and straw to get caught and cause problems. Plus we use the grain cart scale for weights to figure yield... between 3 of us here is how we keep track of how much grain we have. So much easier dumping into a cart, especially with windy days.
