I see that there are some comments about the runway not being absolutely level and, no doubt, the camera exaggerates the undulations. The original Elmdon Airport (by which name I knew it as a boy) was opened just before WWII. The laying of the present runway may go back to wartime, when that would have been considered level enough - it's no problem, even now. So why do our American cousins want their runways perfectly level? They seem to get particularly worried about their B-52s landing at RAF Fairford, where the runway is not perfectly level - it never bothered Concorde.

I remember being on a plane to Germany when I was 8, with my mom and brothers. We got into a storm halfway in the flight, I thought we were going to die! I cried hysterically. My mom was at a loss for how to comfort me. That plane was all over the place, we had to seat belt in and everyone was deathly quiet. We were bumping so hard our butts would've left the seats had it not been for the belts. I thought I would throw up!! Watching it from the outside is interesting to me, kind of comforting to me for some reason. To know that the plane can take that kind of wind shear is fantastic.

Thank you and appreciate you asking if you can use my content. To create this video I had to take a day off from my regular day job, a three hundred mile round trip to Birmingham airport without mentioning the countless costs of constantly renewing and upgrading my camera/computer equipment. I should also mention the countless trips I make to various locations and go home with no content after no shows. I would be pressing the self destruct button if I was to allow every armchair photographer to select all the best bits and use them to their advantage. However all is not lost, you are very welcome to come and join me on a regular low level military aviation chase if you like? With all going to plan over a five day hunt subject to weather and aircraft turning up etc then you may gain enough material to make a 3 minute video. That’s the best I can offer on this occasion my friend.

Has no-one thought to check the runway numbers at BHX? They are 15 and 33, so the runway is almost at right angles to the prevailing wind. A typical south-westerly gale coming through is bound to result in a challenging crosswind landing. PS I did live under the flightpath into Runway 33 for some years.

And can I add a bit of history about the airport? As RAF Elmdon during WWII, it was used to fly to fly out newly-built Lancaster and Stirling bombers. They were not actually built there, but were transported there by road from the Austin works at Longbridge, having had their wings removed, to be reassembled at Elmdon. My late mother-in-law used to tell us that, as a young woman, she sewed little blackout curtains for the windows of the Lancasters, at or near Elmdon.

@@DafyddPhillips I took my first ever flight out of Elmdon: it was on a BEA Viscount and I think it was the first flight of the day. I had been sent on an open day visit to NPL at Glasgow by Rolls-Royce. Once in the air, there was an announcement: "Would the passenger bound for Edinburgh, please make himself known to a member of the crew?" There was huge guffaw the length of the plane.
