I had just turned 6 years old on October 19 1998. Five days later the nightmare began. Sadly it is one of the first memories of my childhood that I have. My family lost everything in Honduras. I remember being rescued in the middle of the night by our uncle. The water was already reaching his chest and that night we slept over the roof of the house. My uncle carried me and my sisters over his shoulder. I remember seeing a cow drowning. We were taken to a shelter which later was impacted my the flood. We couldn't sleep for days. I saw death people floating on the water. Centro América was devastated. It was a horrible thing to to experience

I started doing this about three weeks ago, and my instincts,my intuition is telling me that there is something amiss, but I'm somehow not seeing it right now ,I still feel that there's something not too far off that I need to be wary of ,......SO IM GOING TO KEEP A LOOKOUT FROM HURRICANES TO TORNADOES. TO EARTHQUAKES,. SOMETHING IS LURKING , SOMETHING DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT,!!!, I CAN TELL ,.WHILE .I HOPE I'M WRONG , I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, HOPE TO GOODNESS THAT I'M WRONG ,BUT BECAUSE I SENSE SOMETHING , I'M GOING TO KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON THESE WEATHER RELATED SITUATIONS . Punta Rebels Song Mitchaway brought me here. I was 19yrs old attending University College of Belize,, our Technical Writing lecturer told us to go home and pray because Hurricane Mitch was coming straight towards the city. I remember heading back to my town in Orange Walk and only packed basic essentials and head towards Muffles College for shelter. That evening we became frightened, the BDF came door to door and told us that when the hurricane is about to pass, they will seal the doors. We were listening to LoveFM. All I remember is the panick, people in shelter saying that even there we were not safe. Early the next morning we hear on the radio that somehow the hurricane shifted towards Honduras. We were all happy to be speared but not happy for the direct hit in Honduras. The aftermath, we received reports of the lives and lost but knew that if it would have hit Belize, we were gonna be wiped out. A miracle in nature happened and we were speared.

I think that Captain March instructed the crew at some point to go into the bowels of the ship for safety and stability reasons after the main deck lounge was no longer safe. The ship was laid down on its side from 150mph wind/waves and being all metal hull never righted and went down within 30-60 seconds. The crew, being below main deck could not power through the water rushing in and the next thing the ship is 1,000 feet under the ocean. No bodies were ever found. So very sad. @aceofkpop12434 жыл бұрын
They probably *were* wearing them at the time...But the hurricane destroyed the ship, life jackets certainly wouldn't be able to hold up against such a force either. Plus debris could have trapped them thousands of feet underwater, as well as ocean predators (such as sharks) eating the remains...It's incredibly sad, but even if they weren't wearing the jackets it wouldn't have mattered 🙁

Honduras is a mountainous country, to this day there is a belief the mountains will suck up the punch. People here aren’t informed well on disaster readiness and the government doesn’t make much effort to correct that either. People here worry about many things in their day to day life, from crime or what’ll they do next to bring what little food they can afford into the table. Moving would have disturbed their meager income, and the feeling of safety was stronger inside the country away from the coast, due to the already mentioned mountains. These people just weren’t prepared, this never happened before and it couldn’t have happened to a more unknowing populace. Maybe you should get a heart for empathy, and a conscience for thought. Your head isn’t there just to hold your brain, it’s there for you to think
