Question from someone who hasn't read the books yet. If he never broke, and never gave in, then how did he get back to this planet and how did the seal break?

And a follow-up question for anyone who knows the answer please - if the Oathpact only worked if all 10 Heralds remained on Braize and the Desolations occured when any one of the Heralds broke down and returned to Roshar, why is it that suddenly only Talenel is needed to be on Braize for the Oathpact to work? Don't all ten Heralds need to return to Braize for it to work? And if not and only one Herald is needed on Braize for the Oathpact, why were there ever any Desolations in the first place is Talenel never broke? Is this an inconsistency or am I just missing something?

@@trite4654 We don''t know, though we probably will after Wind and Truth. It's even possible Gavilar was somehow responsible, though that could just be a coincidence in timing.

@@crumbledor3 we won’t know how the door was opened until, hopefully, Wind and Truth. Some in the community believe he broke after 4500 years. Some believe Odium was able to open it or trick him into doing so. I tend to think the latter. Especially after what Odium was seemingly able to do to Hoid. Slash, the Heralds realized after the last desolation that Taln was the only one who died. But yet the Fused were not returning. They betrayed their oaths and walked away. Leaving Taln to hold back the gates of hell itself, alone. Absolutely Legendary

The current theory that has a lot of traction is that Shallan's mother is Chanarach, the herald, and that Shallan unknowingly caused the desolation. Her "lover" was a skybreaker, and that's been confirmed.

There are some inconsistencies. In Rhythm of War, Kaladin killed the pursuer before speaking the 4th ideal and also a heavenly one threw Kaladin's father off the tower. Moreover, in Oathbringer, Moash stabbed King Alethkar through the eye and with a spear not a shardblade.

Hey, I watched half of it, I will listen to the rest later. I noticed one inconsistency, though. The spren didn't know they would become Deadeyes when they chose (along with the knights) to break the oaths. It's probably another side effect of trapping Ba-Ado-Mishram.

They didnt know they would become deadeyes but they knew they would do something equivalent to dying. The only deadeye to ever speak says it herself.
