The obvious mutual affection and devotion between you and Tulip is truly touching and shows how very wrong old school animal behaviorists were about non domesticated animals. The persistent "friendship" of Sam and Frodo with Stormy reminds me of some old school psychotherapy with deeply withdrawn patients. The therapist would just be there, gradually breaking through perforce of interest, kindness and persistence and that relationship would gradually generalize to other people. Let's hope that works for her!

Yes, Stormy finally looks like she is filling out. I'm impressed she got into the tank with the wild boys in there. They are too funny. Maybe she had siblings, so is more tolerant of them. Love the names you have chosen for the different areas...and hoping that the grants come through. How exciting! Of course, so much work for you, but I know you love it and, of course, we love watching and sharing.

Congrats on all the progress, Holley! And hurray for Stormy - it does seem like she's turned a corner. I just cannot believe what she lets Los Dos Banditos get away with; she actually swam over to them and allowed them to climb all over her! I wonder if they register as "babies" for her, even though they're not beaver babies? Tulip is so gentle and kind. She is so sensitive to Stormy giving her space etc. I wonder if Stormy being wild as a baby makes her unable to recognize Tulip as one of her own. Could it be her eyesight? Tulip tries so hard to make friends ❤

Those little raccoons are such good climbers !! What an adorable pair of little monkeys they are! I shall be following their mischievous progress with interest. It's great to see that everyone seems to be doing OK; well, tulip seems very happy, as ever, and stormy at least appears to be doing well. Sadly Holley is still suffering with Covid symptoms, which must be really frustrating. One of the pleasures of life we all take for granted being smelling and eating nice food. I hope your senses return Holley. ❤your lil' animals❤

Tulip is such a Sweet Beaver, i love her so very much ❤❤❤❤❤ She just wants to be friends with GORGEOUS Stormy Rose . She let the racoons walk on her, touch her, i think she is such a gentle soul. I hope she can bond with Tulip as Tulip would be such a Sweet friend. I think Stormmy`s past trauma could be a reason and that she may had never had the chance to bond with other Beavers being out in the wild. It is Sad to me, but she looks so good and is at least coming out. I LOVE STORMY ROSE, BLESS HER GENTLE HEART ❤❤

Not a dumb question! Beavers scent mark for many reasons. Sometimes to mark a territory boundary which warns stranger beavers to be aware and stay out. They also scent mark to advertise status when looking for a mate. It’s great that Stormy is scent marking. It shows she is comfortable in the enclosure to claim it as her own. Tulip never seems too bothered by it and Stormy doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. Beaver behavior is so interesting!

Does Stormy seem to respond to human touch or hand feeding? The baby raccoons are scratching her back, and she’s not slapping her tail or resisting. Are they that defenseless? (A raccoon once caused my cat to need 13 stitches 😿). She IS gaining weight 🎉. Obviously human raised beavers show their personality 🥰 Thanks Dr. Muraco. (Covid made everything taste *sour*, but the least of my concerns)

My heart is sad for Tulip. She wants a beaver friend, but Stormy is making it obvious she isn’t interested. That aggressive scent marking at the top of the stairs to the pool really did put Tulip off. I see Stormy returning to the wild as soon as she’s healthy enough, and Tulip clinging to Mama Holley, with whom she has more in common.

Male and females beavers look exactly the same. All reproductive organs are tucked inside. There is only one hole (identical in males and females) that serves all reproductive, digestion and scent marking. Male beavers have a tiny bone in the “mating” organ. Trying to stay G rated. With x rays you can usually see this bone. That is how we know male from female. However even that can be tricky with the wrong angles.
