Scharnhorst is my favorite ship to use in the game. I have AL Scharnhorst as commander with Ciliax and Cunningham as inspiration. She is a good tier 6 premium, well worth getting.

Actually Scharny is one of my favorite ships in the game, and while I'm a bit of a history buff, familiar with the story of the Bismark, Tirpitz and even Prinze Eugen, I didn't know how Scharny met her demise. Good story.

It captures an emotion that this fails to, and the stunning cinematography combined with the frozen in time effect was truly beautiful. There is a certain difference, that doesn't seem to be your point of interest: in the first case there are 1k+ dead seamen - brave, young sailors with a stolen future - which in the second case (most of them) survived and still had their whole life to live. As a father of a 21 years old strong and healthy son I prefer a wise and perspicacious commander, who knows when it's time to surrender in order to save precious lives ... like Captain H. Langsdorff did, when he sank the "Pocket-Battleship" Graf Spee 3 miles away from the port of Montevideo instead of fighting a hope- and senseless battle with a deadly wounded ship. Thus saved almost one thousand lives, which madman Hitler wanted to sacrifice "fighting til the last shell" ... - considering this, now it's your turn to decide, what is the right move in a deadly wounded battleship! 😉

I mean, duh, it’s war. And war is meant to be unfair. Of course the British are gonna send a ton of warships against one of Germany’s last major battleships. If your enemy has a threat, you would do anything in your power to make sure that threat is gone. It’s not, “Heya King George V, we gotta make the battle against Bismarck fair, so we’re sending Rodney and the others back home while you fight Bismarck.”

Love this video for many reasons: shows on of my favorite warships - second only to Graf Spee, that many battle have been won starting from a lucky hit, that technological advancemente matters, tells about one brave last stand and shows che chivalrous comment (and earned respect) from the enemy.

Capability? Bruh the Germans terrified the British so much that even in 1 to 10 odds they wouldn't engage unless the ship was isolated at the Scharnhorst was. The fact that the Germans knew good and well they were all going to die, but wanted to bring as many down with them as they could and fought to the death shows just how disciplined the Kriegsmarine was. It was the same case for many German ships, Bismarck and Tirpitz not the least among them.

I got into naval warships because of a miniatures game I played at GenCon called Fletcher Pratt many years ago. Great sea battles are truly amazing and NOTHING is as powerful as a full broadside from modern 16" guns. The Germans knew how to build and command their ships, but lost the war due to an incompetent leader.

I think bismarck and sharnhorst could have stayed afloat had their support escorts not split up....the outcome may have been different with support.

@@agenthunk5070 No. In Bismarck's case it would have only led to Prinz Eugen being sunk as well since 2 Heavy Cruisers were also assisting the hunt and final battle against Bismarck. These two Cruisers were also significantly lighter than Eugen yet just as capable. For Scharnhorst it would result the same, but all of Germany's Destroyers would be sunk as well by British Cruisers.
