@screambloodygore5688 Is right. I have Hart's book and Dutch Mantell isnt mentioned in it once. He really lays it in on Ken Mantell though. I can confirm it isnt true. Also, he REALLY insults Tennessee wrestling as a whole, esp Jerry Jarrett and the Fullers, calling them "inbred hillbillies". He said Lawler was "the only rose that came out of that briar patch of hillbillies".

I remember absolutely despising Benoit as a kid watching wrestling. When he feuded with Rock, with Jericho, around 2000, he was the heel I hated the most, which means he was damn good. It goes without saying that he tarnished his legacy but he was a damn good heel. He didn’t have the attributes to be a babyface at all.

I agree. As a doctor I've seen both sides of CTE. The argument that you are responsible for what you do in life as opposed to your actions are not your own if your brain has suffered years of insult. I didn't like Benoit before it was cool. To me, he always was just some aggressive guy with a blank stare. That said, he became a monster because the wrestling style people loved him for destroyed his brain, in combination with the notoriously grueling WWE schedule. Erasing him from history is not an honorable decision, but a rather blunt way of deflecting guilt. Ok, WWE stopped treating their wrestlers like circus animals in the aftermath, turning into an average uncaring employer, but they are still far from admitting anything.

I borrowed Gary Hart's book from my cousin. As I recall, Hart, and this took up several chapters in the book, was absolutely furious because his trash cans (dust bins for UK readers) kept getting "messed with". Apparently, they were always getting pushed over, thrown about, and Hart was convinced they were being urinated on. Who was Hart's main suspect... Dutch Mantell.

Wrestling fans: Chris Benoit should be lauded because even though he murdered his wife and child he could do some really good moves in a wrestling ring and that matters more than the life is a child. I'll say it here now! I am of the few who can separate his work from what he did. Paul was right 3 died and 2 had no choice in the matter.....that is the sad thing, I really wish Benoit would have taken a year or so off after Eddie died! Vinnymac tried to do that, it was obvious he took this way harder than anyone else. It was very clear he needed help, and didn't get it. My favorite ladder match ever is the ic championship at the 2001 royal rumble with Jericho vs Benoit! So fucking great! I'll say, it hit me hard when I found out about this tragedy, I loved Benoit's work a lot, I respected his work to the point of finally getting in the ring myself, I've loved and been in the business, I've booked in Las Vegas, wrestled in Las Vegas, but because of what happened with his family, I just can't say he's the lowest pile of shit. I hated to see that happen when he needed so much help, but was too proud to ask or accept it. I first met Chris back in 2001 after that rumble match, such a respectful guy, Jericho too! But I'll never forget him telling me, don't be afraid of the chase, that's the fun part, be more afraid of what happens after you get there. Then told me, I'll see you on raw or smackdown one day. Ive not gotten to WWE yet but, I often wonder what it would've been like to have wrestled Chris, Eddie or Jericho? I ran into him two more times, and he remembered me, hey Gary how's it going, that's the Chris I remember.

As far as technical abilities, Chris was good, sure, but so was William Regal, Dean Malenko, Gangrel, and a whole slew of others that could outdo Chris in every single aspect that are never even in the conversation. Why? Because a lot of them are still alive. It’s like these awful rappers who die and suddenly become the greatest musicians to have ever lived. People do the same to Eddie. Eddie wasn’t top 10 either but he died during a white hot run so naturally people are going to say he was better than everyone…😂 he wasn’t. He was better than Chris Benoit, for sure, but the only reason I put him above Chris is because Eddie had a good look, could KIND OF talk and was at least entertaining. Back to Chris, the second reason is because of these gen z, call of duty, morally bankrupt troll kids, who’ve probably never seen ONE Chris Benoit match, thinking it’s edgy and funny calling Chris Benoit the best. And you have to be morally bankrupt to call him that btw. The fact that he murdered his own 7 year old son trumps everything he EVER did in the ring. He deserves no accolades and deserves to be buried and forgotten. And everyone wants to talk about “iT wAs cTe, iT wAs tHe ChAiR ShOtS tHatS wHy hE DiD iT!!” How do you guys think Mick Foley’s brain looks? How about Terry Funk? Jeff Hardy? Matt Hardy? Edge? Christian? Don’t talk to me about concussions and chair shots when all of those aforementioned men have taken way more than Chris yet have never murdered anyone.
