Spoilers for Mother 3 and End World Normopathy, CW drugs, unreality, parental death mention, child neglect mention and ableism. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Listen. When I say the frame at 3:53 messed me up, it messed me *up* /pos. For those who haven’t played Mother 3, the context of this textbox in particular is that the party at this point in time ate hallucinogenic mushrooms on an island they were stranded on, and as a result of eating those mushrooms, the characters are experiencing hallucinations based on their fears and past traumas. This particular frame is centered on the main character Lucas, and his experiences listening to the people in his hometown calling him a crybaby for grieving his dead mother, in addition to him being very emotionally sensitive before his mom’s death. The bad magic the mailbox is referring to here is the magic system you learn in the game, PSI. The reason this is messing me up /pos now is because knowing the lore behind Tamari, the bad magic in question *could* be referring to quantum theory, since Tamari’s ultimate goal is to hop between timelines in order to find a universe where Dr. Khalid loves them. I’m not sure who the mailbox could symbolize in this context, whether it be Tamari’s own insecurities or the team of scientists who pathologized their every behavior. But that combined with “let us focus on getting through the day, without making him angry again” causes me to interpret this as people being angry with Tamari for being so emotional and producing trauma responses even though it wasn’t their fault for being built that way. It’s quite literally Dr. Khalid that caused them to spiral like this in the first place. I like to believe that Tamari, initially seeking Mother 3 out because it was initially obscure, related to both Lucas and his missing brother Claus. In Lucas’s case, it was because he too was shamed for having emotions by the literal and metaphorical villages of people that raised them both, having to work through anxieties and grief surrounding what life they could have had their parents not neglected them in the times they really needed them. And as for Claus? It’s because they both ran away to get revenge on the people that hurt them. Claus running to the mountains to kill the Drago that killed his mother, and Tamari running away to another universe to find the mother figure they could have had in this one. And knowing what happens to Claus in the end…… I’m aware that at the time RBB was written there was no concrete lore for Tamari, however the parallels between Mother 3’s Tanetane Island sequence and that specific line of RBB shattered all my bones upon impact, and I cannot thank Team 6x111 enough for bringing this story to life and emotionally devastating not only me, but dozens of other listeners. Thank you for releasing this footage, it was wonderful to analyze!!
