I'm glad you spent Christmas with your sister's family. That's wonderful. Your place is coming along nicely Amber. So happy for you. My son came over and my daughter was here also. She is my Christmas Eve baby, so we do things back to back. We listened to Christmas music and played cards with my new deck of Old Bay playing cards my daughter gave to me for Christmas. We Love Old Bay. It's a Maryland thing...lol I wanted a white Christmas this year so badly and it didn't happen again...

Traveled... an hour! COLD in New England!!! Ocean effect snow on Cape Cod Christmas morning was a first, and magical. 15 of us FINALLY together after stupid covid (well, SINCE covid!) I missed them all sooooooo. Best thing about Christmas is laughing with my ridiculously funny family, laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. I have finally learned that the insanity of shopping and the stress is not "it." "IT" is being with those you adore, as much as you can, and making plans to start Summer in April (dreams are good!) Thanks for a hard fought 2022, Amber. You got through it. Proud of you, girl. Love, a stranger who, though marrried, can totally relate to a single YOU! 💖 HAPPY 2023!

This move to the cottage is the BEST decision you ever made. Couch/sofa is the perfect color especially with the gale blue furniture. Wise to buy new when it comes to a couch or a mattress because used they carry bacteria unless you have it professionally cleaned. If you haven’t already just by the bed frame to set the box spring and mattress on and wait before buying a head & foot board. A box spring helps the air circulation of the mattress prevent mold & mildew. Patiently waiting for the sound of four paws 🐶…I think you would like a little dog breed that doesn’t shed hair-so soft to pet. Also, its easy to groom & clip her hair yourself.

I am a staging student so I watch anything related to home decor for my studies..It's awesome seeing a new home come together..Like a blank canvas getting painted..👍💯 The BLT was restaurant quality...Never seen furniture intentionally delivered in darkness..🤫The dresser is multipurpose, console and storage..Good choice..Having watched numerous van lifers videos, my conclusion is ,you have to be physically fit..It's a lot of constant movements...

I love your couch, I could fall asleep on that couch. I like your blueish table ( stand) with the drawers. That’s really nice for storage. Like I said before I’m so happy for you. I understand about the refrigerator, you can now put so much more stuff. We really do take so many things for granted (Talking about myself). Again, I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU! I love your new apartment and what you’re doing with it! The dresser is a quality piece that will last a lifetime, and it’s gorgeous! Imagine being on the road during this horrendous weather! Not good! And I get it, because every day I thank the Lord for EVERY modern convenience I have! For my washing machine and dryer, a warm bed, a hot shower, etc. I am very blessed! It was time to come off the road, living in a van for as long as you did…I think this is a much healthier choice! I know van life can be very, very rewarding, but it is constant hard work! I wish you only the best in your new adventure! Much affection from the city of Detroit!

My mom quit her secretarial job at RCA, and she felt she finally had time for all the homemaker things she'd always wanted to try. And one thing she'd always wanted to do was make popcorn balls for Halloween treats! So I she got the ingredients as the store, and started cooking a molasses concoction, as you show yourself doing. She stirred the popcorn into the syrup, and formed it all into balls, wrapped with Saran wrap, with only about a day to spare, and she shared the fruits of her labor on Halloween night. But as my friends and I walked back from our trip around the neighborhood, we began to see them: popcorn balls, thrown on the streets. The next day, popcorn balls, everywhere, on every street, flat and hard-glued to the pavement. The popcorn balls had not only been rejected, but the syrup had rendered them with great staying power. So, for months to come, a trip to the store, or on the school bus, was a trip over flattened popcorn balls, probably every single one she had made. Poor mama; I knew she was feeling pretty bad, already, and this rejection probably felt like the rejection, even of her dreams. But it wasn't really her fault, except that she didn't try them out before the big night. Kids loved caramel, but molasses? No. It was like Black Draught Syrup. It was a great-grandaddy kind of thing, that wasn't even part of our world.. Mama tried to take it in a sporting way, but seeing her popcorn balls cemented to the ground, through rain or shine, must have hurt.

Merry Christmas. It was so nice that you could spend the day with your family. We were snowed in but I live with me daughter and granddaughter so it worked out fine. I live in the Niagara Region of Canada and we got hit hard with that storm. It was all over Canada and the US. We have about 3 or 4 feet of snow in our back yard lol

Awesome start to apartment life. I moved out of my RV (it gets below zero for weeks at a time here in Northern Minnesota) and into a sparse one bedroom much the same size. I opted not to buy much furniture and going the bohemian style. I brought things in from the camper that make apartment life doable, a camp table for a desk (I did buy an office chair), my campfire chair to read in, and using my deluxe backpacking air matress for a bed. I'm doing a work-camping gig that morphed into a yearlong opportunity so the apartment rent is reimbursed. Its nice to not have to worry about the camper freezing if the heat fails and my dog is safer too. Hope to hit the road again in late summer/early fall when the job ends. They are going to have to stop calling these storm events 'once in a century' if they keep coming at us this frequent. Today is the first time we've been above zero in more than a couple weeks (yeah still road the ebike to work during this time), got all the way into the 20's! Nice to have the full-size fridge and hotwater and a big shower. But I'm already missing the traveling. Maybe in the Spring I can do a weekend trip, until then it's work and save for the winter. Beautiful couch & dresser! I love the colors. Consider a folding bed frame for your bed that you can use in place of a box spring. I bought one for a 600 sf tiny house that I had. Fit perfectly and allowed great underbed storage.

Not sure if you want any decor advice but to tie things together you need to incorporate the blue from the credenza and the gray of the sofa and the paint colour of the wall. That could be done with pillows (large ones not 12”x12”). I wouldn’t jump into an accent chair until you firmly have the whole scheme worked out. Pick out a large rug (large so the feet of the couch fit under the sofa and it’s large enough in width for the eventual accent chair). Pick out the rug first with all the colours of blue , gray and wall colour before the pillows. I am an artist who does interior design also. Please disregard if you think I’ve crossed the line.

Merry Christmas. As a child we camped. We had a camper, we didn't have solar, but Daddy had extra batteries for it . We had a fullbath and slept 6. Daddy hooked up a TV and we had a great fan system. My husband and I are planning to get a camper to travel around.

If your pipes didn't burst you got lucky when it's cold you need to cut your water off completely and open all your faucets and then during the day when the temperature comes back up you can turn your water on but when it gets down below freezing you need to cut it off especially when it's in the teens or below

@@storychasing thank you. I didn’t know you couldn’t put aluminum in the dishwasher. It’s probably because I haven’t used aluminum since for many years. I use stainless steel. Aluminum is a good heat conductor though.

Merry Christmas Amber!!!! A tip that someone showed and served me a decade or more ago (possibly something from Paula Dean) is that after you wash the grapes, if you put them in a water tight container - then add a dusting (or more) of Jello gelatin or even Kool Aid (sugar free or whatever your preference might be) and then freeze them - it is a tasty, nearly candied treat! I used to try to find unusual tropical fruity flavors to try out doing this on them! ;-) Happy New Year!!!! ;-)

Hi Amber! That is what I just did. But I traveled and lived in my RV just for a year. I have an apartment in Denver near my younger son now. I really appreciate my bath tub! I'm still going to be traveling but part time, internationally and cruising. I am going to get or rent a little trailer to tow with my RAV 4 Hybrid and go to Quartzite next month. I really enjoyed picking out furniture again, It was fun. I sold and got rid of so much when I left Georgia in 2020. Thanks for sharing! 🌹Red

I was in my RV when it hit and the electric went out and the campground and my generator shut off after only 6 hours so luckily I could just start my truck and keep warm till my son could pick me up the next day. I've had a sad Christmas, but am not to burden others with it. On another note, tonight is the last night of 5 nights of freezes! Wow. I have never experienced this in the Houston area before. Insane! Your place is coming along nicely. I have to admit I got a little jealous over that kitchen vs my tiny RV kitchen.. Merry Christmas - happy that you got to spend it with family 👪 💝🎄🎅

I grew up in Dallas as a kid, graduated from high school in Arlington. It gets COLD there in Dec/Jan, but by mid Feb, people will start opening their pools, then it will snow and ice again, before the bluebonnets start blooming in March. lol I left in 1988 and never moved back. Although I spent the first 17 years of my life there, I don't care for the culture of ignorance there. The cost of living is nice, though. Most of the time, it's about 90 degrees with 90% humidity, and miserable from 8 AM to 8 PM. It's mildly less miserable from 8 PM-8AM. lol

Ha ha ha , yes yesterday my hubby was on Bike mode. My miles said 22 minutes and he couldn’t figure why his said 1 hr 20 minutes, but then he figured it out, so yes phones get screwed up sometimes. Yes to frozen grapes. Glad you have a place other than your van. We just were in an Oregon ice storm. We couldn’t drive for 24 hrs!
