Oh, wow! It's the first time I skipped the playthrough to see only your impressions because I want to back it and don't be spoiled!! I loved Eila so much, and this one definitely has the same vibe! Thx for presenting it :)

I got to play-test the first scenarios of Wildwoods. I'm not a board gamer, let alone solo, but I found it challenging, beautiful and intriguing ♥ Backed!

That cascade of bad effects at 44:20 is an example of why I'm hesitant about this one. The art and concept seem awesome but the roll-to-resolve card system feels very Final Girl to me, and I found Final Girl extremely frustrating. I don't mind chance in failing a roll, but I don't love having that one fail add a bunch of upkeep and also possibly tank the whole scenario. But I really want to like this one, so we'll see!
@OneStopCoopShop24 күн бұрын
@@stephembee personally I find the randomness way lower in this one than final girl, partially because when you are taking your highest probably actions (which you almost always should try to do) you are succeeding 3/8 of the time per die. But also the fail forward nature of the scenarios means that a few terrible rolls don’t ruin the campaign

That's a great comparison, art-style! I only played the demo of that one, but yeah, very similar aesthetic and vibe.

This looks like it should be perfect for me, but for some reason I'm bouncing off. I'll go watch another video or two before I decide. Thanks for the video!

Maybe too mechanical? The puzzle and tactical choices are deeper than I expected, if you are looking for more of a light story experience
@morgaknightgames20 күн бұрын
@OneStopCoopShop I don't think that's it as I actually enjoy that aspect usually. I looked up the publisher and realized I also bounced off Mythwind and Stonesaga, so there's clearly something about their games that are missing for me but I'm not sure what exactly.
@OneStopCoopShop19 күн бұрын
@@morgaknightgames I didn't love Stars of Akarios from the same publisher, and while I never played Mythwind, it didn't look like something I'd enjoy much. BUT both Stonesaga and this one are by entirely different designers (just the same publisher), and I'm loving this one, and I think Stonesaga also looks great. So that fact that it's the same publisher isn't factoring into my decisions much here.
@morgaknightgames19 күн бұрын
@OneStopCoopShop oh for sure! I just thought it was interesting. This is a super unique looking game and I love the design, so I'm a bit baffled why I'm not as interested as I'd thought I'd be now that playthroughs and previews are showing up.

I’m really intrigued by this game, but I’m also dice-phobic. What do you think of creating an Oathsworn style deck where I take a normal 52-card poker deck and remove all but the A-8 cards. Would that break the game?
@OneStopCoopShop26 күн бұрын
It definitely wouldn't break the game, and I've seen games do that kind of controlled randomness thing before. But something to consider... if you don't have an "auto-shuffle" card or something similar, it can be super unfun to have drawn all the good cards and know only terrible stuff is coming later. What I'd suggest for an "easy mode" alternative to a deck of cards is some mitigating resource each time you fail with 2+ dice on a test. Something like giving yourself a free crystal (a bonus success later) each time that happens. That should naturally make your losses sting less.

@ Great idea! Another feature of Oathsworn.
